About me

Whether this is your first time seeking a therapist or you have previous experience of therapy, I feel it is important to honour this step you have taken in your journey. Looking for a therapist can be overwhelming, so hopefully as you carry on reading you will get a sense of how I work.

My purpose is to help people process the heaviness, the burdens, the shame, the guilt, the fears, the things we daren’t say to others. Perhaps these feelings are a result of loss. Loss occurs in our lives in many ways: losing someone, leaving a home or country, the loss of a relationship, or even a loss of a part of ourselves. You may find yourself saying things like “I should be over this by now”, “I need to be strong for others”, “If I move forward, I’m afraid that I will forget my memories”, “No one else really understands and I don’t want to bother them”, “How do I move on?”.

As difficult and scary as it might seem now, therapy can help. It helps us to learn new strategies to cope better with any present and future difficulties that we may face. It is a space to look at different possibilities, learn more about yourself and how you connect with yourself, others, and the world around you. Therapy is a healing journey that will provide you with a renewed and empowered sense of being.

Therapy is a garden

Think of therapy as a garden, a space that is protected just for you. The initial sessions will be around getting to know the lay of the land. Our exploration will identify what needs attention, what growth needs nurturing, and what needs pruning or weeding. We will build benches in the form of creating mental and physical space in your daily life for you to rest, pause and reflect. We will also build bridges to areas that are overgrown with emotions, making them easier to access, understand, and work on. As our work continues, you will gain some new seeds in the form of coping strategies and insights, which can be planted to use in your everyday life. You will also gain self-care tools and knowledge on how to maintain the garden of your mind in a way that works for you.

A little bit on my approach to therapy

Therapy is a partnership. You are the resident gardener; you know your body and mind better than anyone else, therefore you will guide the therapy process and decide where our focus should be. I am the external gardener who is there to walk alongside you and work at the pace that makes you feel comfortable. I will be with you along your journey helping to untangle areas that seem unmanageable, providing techniques and knowledge to understand what you are experiencing in a way that is easier to process.

I have trained as an Integrative Therapist. This means that the Integrative Model is not based on one discipline. The approach recognises that everyone has their own circumstances and different ways of relating to the world, therefore the approach therapists use should be adapted to the needs of each client. They do this by using elements of different approaches and disciplines to help clients explore, understand, and find coping mechanisms. The models I use within my practice are:

  • Person Centred Therapy: to understand your experience and your world from your perspective.
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy: to understand and identify how your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours work together. I find this model particularly useful when working with clients, as it makes it easier to understand how these areas impact each other and where changes can be made.
  • Transactional Analysis: to better understand how your past may have influenced your present.
  • Gestalt Therapy: to help clients connect with difficult feelings that are less accessible, using creative methods.

If you feel the therapy that I offer will be helpful, please contact me via email. If you would prefer a conversation, please provide your contact number within the email. I will respond as soon as I can (usually the same day).

Training, qualifications & experience

  • BSc (hons) Counselling and Therapeutic Studies
  • PGDip Counselling and Psychotherapy

I worked at Cruse Bereavement during the COVID pandemic. Whilst clients came to Cruse due to the loss of a loved one, often other aspects of their life were also brought into our sessions. I worked with elements of relationship breakdown, change in family dynamics, creating better sleep routines, self-worth, and searching for spiritual meaning.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Additional information

I offer a free 30 minute telephone or video (online) session to get an initial feel for how we will work together and if therapy will meet your needs.

I offer therapy via telephone or video (online) at £50.00 per hour. In my experience video and telephone therapy offer flexibility and access for individuals who may be suffering from physical illnesses, disabilities, or other limitations. Being able to access therapy from your own home can also relieve stresses such as taking to account journey times, parking, allocating extra time, and feeling anxious of being in an unknown environment. Working within your own home allows you to feel comfortable and safe, putting you at ease allowing for more in-depth communication.
