About me
What I can help with
I specialise in working with individuals who grapple with anxiety, suppressed anger and grief to regain their confidence and strength. I have particular experience in working with young people and adults feeling stuck or facing a lot of change or going through major transitions in life. Some of life's challenges my clients benefit from my help are: divorce, redundancy, retirement, major illness, post-natal depression, going into work, starting new school or university, starting a family, challenges in accepting cultural differences, expression and communication difficulties, and other anxieties.
I have supported clients with relationship hardships involving loss of trust, grief, anger, stress and depression, work-related issues such as burn out and bullying, physical, emotional and sexual abuse, the challenges faced by anyone who cares for a family member or a friend who is physically or psychologically in need of support, feelings related to history of adoption, losing a relative or a friend to suicide and many more.
I offer a wide range of Counselling in the following areas: Abuse, Addiction, History of Adoption, Affairs and Betrayals, Alcoholism, Anger Management, Anxiety, Bereavement, Bullying, Child Counselling, Depression, Drug Addiction, Eating Disorders, Emotional Abuse, Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Low Self-Confidence, Low Self-Esteem, Physical Abuse, Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Post-natal Depression, Relationship Problems, Sexual Abuse, Stress, Trauma, Work-related Stress.
About Me
I am a warm, sensitive and supportive counsellor with over 20 years of experience. I offer individual counselling for adults of all ages and work within easy reach of Cheltenham, Gloucester, Stroud and Cirencester.
People often see me as an easily trusted, caring and compassionate person. I currently work in my private practice but have a considerable experience working with adults and young people in agency settings and EAPs.
I see clients both face to face and online.
I am passionate about the the value of creating a safe space for deep, real and honest conversations where you can feel heard, understood and free to express feelings and explore problems from different perspectives.
I believe that emotional pain is often rooted in a relationship (at least an insecure and uncaring aspect of it) or major life changing events but it is only through a positive relational experience that our emotional wounds can be truly healed.
Before I trained as a counsellor, I worked in the business world.
I also have experience of living and working in different cultures.
I speak fluent Bulgarian and have working knowledge of Italian and Russian.
My Approach
In my trauma-informed practice, I work in a number of different ways depending on what is required and what best suits you. I recognise each of my clients as a unique person with individual feelings and needs. I make sure that you are in control of the healing process by helping you set, review and achieve your own goals and offering you a number of choices.
Alongside with helping you to better manage your conscious emotions, I have significant experience of working with the Subconscious Mind through Block Clearance Therapy (BCT). This modality helps identify and re-program deep-seated subconscious patterns in our behaviours, feelings and experiences, some of which may have been useful in the past but have become redundant for our present circumstances. BCT facilitates our understanding of how these patterns were formed by going to the very root of the issue. It helps release suppressed feelings and self-destructive belief systems. Then, we re-pattern our subconscious mind with affirmations to release new, expansive ways of thinking, using our abilities and playing life to our strengths.
My main aim is to help you achieve deeper understanding and compassion to yourself, confidence and self-acceptance so that you are able to find the solutions you seek, make the best decisions you need and create a better quality of life for yourself.
Therapies offered include: Block Clearance Therapy, Person-centred Therapy, Psychodynamic and Integrative.
Training and Qualifications
I hold a Post Graduate Diploma in Humanistic and Integrative Counselling from the Bath Centre of Counselling and Psychotherapy. I am a member of BACP and hold a Diploma in Block Clearance Therapy – a unique approach which specialises in recognising, releasing and re-patterning maladaptive sub-conscious patterns.
I regularly attend a wide range of training courses (at least 4 a year) for my continual professional development, which allow me to gain new insights into my clients inner worlds and develop deeper compassion for the challenges they face.
Next Steps
The first session is a non-obligation-to-continue meeting to allow us to get to know each other other: for you to get a sense of who I am and how I work and for me to discern if I am the right counsellor for you. If we both wish to continue, we would meet regularly, usually weekly, at mutually convenient time.
I offer both short term counselling (1-6 sessions to focus perhaps on a specific topic) or for a longer term (up to or over a year, which allows us to explore more feelings and aspects of life). The length of Counselling is arranged according to each individual needs and can incorporate long-term face to face, online therapy or short-term sessions.
Both day time and evening appointments are available. To book our first meeting, please call 07970 120 430 or e-mail nicoletta.babbs88@gmail.com. If I cannot take your call in person, please, leave a message and I will contact you as soon as possible between 9am and 9pm Mondays to Thursdays and 9am and 5pm on Fridays (except bank holidays).
Training, qualifications & experience
I hold a Post Graduate Diploma in Humanistic and Integrative Counselling from the Bath Centre of Counselling and Psychotherapy.
I am a member of BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) and am bound by their Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy.
I have a special training and experience in working with young adults (17+) from the On Track Youth Counselling Service in Swindon; I have worked with adults of all ages in Cotswold Counselling Service in Cirencester, The Tree of Life Centre in Staverton, near Cheltenham and in my own private practice. In January 2019, I completed a training for working with children and young adults with I'm OK, You're OK and a number of training courses working with Trauma and PTSD.
I am in the very last stages of completing a Block Clearance Therapy Diploma with six years' client experience in working with Subconscious Mind. The Subconscious forms 80% of our mind. Often our best efforts are not enough to achieve what we aim for. This approach helps identify deep-seated subconscious patterns in our behaviours, feelings and experiences and facilitates our understanding of how these patterns were formed, discover the very root of the issue; release suppressed feelings and self-destructive belief systems and, then, re-pattern Subconscious with affirmations to release new hidden resources and abilities. (For more information, please visit www.blockclearance.com).
I have particular experience with people facing a lot of change and going through major transitions in life such as divorce, redundancy, retirement, major illness, post-natal depression, going into work, starting new school or university, starting a family, challenges in accepting cultural differences, expression and communication difficulties etc.
I have also supported my clients with their relationship hardships, grief, anger, stress and depression, work related issues such as burn out and bullying; physical, emotional and sexual abuse as well as the challenges faced by anyone who cares for a family member or a friend who is physically or psychologically in need of support.
I have lived and worked in different countries and have an insight into the difficulties one faces with adapting to different cultures, values and life-styles.
I strive to constantly improve and enhance my theoretical knowledge and practical skills in dealing with my clients’ problems and needs and attend a variety of professional development courses each year.
Member organisations

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
