About me
I am a warm, sensitive and supportive counsellor offering individual counselling for adults of all ages and working within easy reach from Cheltenham, Gloucester, Stroud and Cirencester. I recognize each of my clients as a unique person and work with their individual feelings and needs.
I believe that our emotional pain is often rooted in a relationship (often in an insecure and uncaring aspect of it) or major life changing events but it is only through a positive relationship experience that our emotional wounds can be healed.
I offer a caring, compassionate and constructive working relationship where my clients can feel heard, understood and safe to express feelings and explore problems from different perspectives. Clients can see me both for a short term counselling (1-6 sessions to focus perhaps on a specific topic) or for a long term (up to or over a year, which allows us to explore more feelings and aspects of life). The length of Counselling is arranged according to each individual needs.
My approach is aimed at achieving a deeper understanding, confidence and self-acceptance so that my clients are able to make the best choices and decisions for themselves.
The first session is a non-obligation to continue meeting to allow us to get to know each other other: for you to get a sense of who I am and how I work and for me to discern if I am the right counsellor for you. If we both felt we could work together and wished to continue, we would meet regularly, usually weekly, at mutually convenient time.
I offer both day time and evening appointments. To book our first meeting, please call 07970 120 430 or send an e-mail to nicoletta.babbs@btinternet.com. If I cannot take your call in person, please, leave a message and I will contact you as soon as possible between 9am and 9 pm Mondays to Thursdays and 9am and 5 pm on Fridays (except bank holidays)
Training, qualifications & experience
I hold a Post Graduate Diploma in Humanistic and Integrative Counselling from the Bath Centre of Counselling and Psychotherapy.
I am a member of BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) and am bound by their Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy.
I have a special training and experience in working with young adults (17+) from the On Track Youth Counselling Service in Swindon; I have worked with adults of all ages in Cotswold Counselling Service in Cirencester, The Tree of Life Centre in Staverton, near Cheltenham and in my own private practice. In January 2019, I completed a training for working with children and young adults with I'm OK, You're OK and a number of training courses working with Trauma and PTSD.
I am in the very last stages of completing a Block Clearance Therapy Diploma with six years' client experience in working with Subconscious Mind. The Subconscious forms 80% of our mind. Often our best efforts are not enough to achieve what we aim for. This approach helps identify deep-seated subconscious patterns in our behaviours, feelings and experiences and facilitates our understanding of how these patterns were formed, discover the very root of the issue; release suppressed feelings and self-destructive belief systems and, then, re-pattern Subconscious with affirmations to release new hidden resources and abilities. (For more information, please visit www.blockclearance.com).
I have particular experience with people facing a lot of change and going through major transitions in life such as divorce, redundancy, retirement, major illness, post-natal depression, going into work, starting new school or university, starting a family, challenges in accepting cultural differences, expression and communication difficulties etc.
I have also supported my clients with their relationship hardships, grief, anger, stress and depression, work related issues such as burn out and bullying; physical, emotional and sexual abuse as well as the challenges faced by anyone who cares for a family member or a friend who is physically or psychologically in need of support.
I have lived and worked in different countries and have an insight into the difficulties one faces with adapting to different cultures, values and life-styles.
I strive to constantly improve and enhance my theoretical knowledge and practical skills in dealing with my clients’ problems and needs and attend a variety of professional development courses each year.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
