About me

The most important aspect for success in psychotherapy and counselling, is the therapeutic relationship. That’s why it’s really important to pick the right therapist for you. So, it’s only fair I try and give you a sense of who I am and what working with me would be like.

My name is Nick and I am a professionally trained and accredited therapist. I believe life is difficult and people encounter difficulties, including personal catastrophes along the journey of life. I believe discovering your personal meaning to life is fundamental to being the best you can be. It can be scary and worrying to do this as it might bring in questions about who you are, what choices you’ve made and why you’ve made them. But it’s through this that personal growth is enabled.

Counselling can be an opportunity to share your problems and difficulties of life with a professionally trained individual that is wanting the best for you. I definitely want the best for you. What is best for you will be unique to you and different for everyone and it’s through therapy that we can work towards this. It’s a place where you can explore your feelings safely and leave counselling with a better understanding of who you are and how you relate to others. It’s this increased self-awareness and developing courage that can shift the direction you are heading. You are free to talk about whatever you need to talk about. I will be with you on your journey while we explore together.

I was trained at the University of Greenwich and achieved a high Level 5 qualification. I have an interest in neuroscience and psychology, but I'm not a Psychiatrist or a Psychologist and therefore don't subscribe fully to the medical model way of working. Anti-depressants and SSRI's can be very helpful (and lifesaving in some cases), but I have noticed through many years of practice that they often don't provide a fix. Ultimately that comes down to who we are and whether we're willing to be curious about how we are.

If deeper exploration is not for you, there are some very effective strategies and techniques that can be helpful with anxiety and relaxation that we could work on.

I won’t tell you what to do, but I will try and help you find some answers for yourself.

I hope you find the right counsellor for you. If you think that might be me feel free to call or send a message so we can arrange your no obligation discounted first session. If not, then I wish you all the very best on your journey.

Nick

Training, qualifications & experience

  • BACP Accredited
  • Level 5  in Counselling & Psychotherapy (University of Greenwich)
  • Level 3 Counselling Skills and Theory

As part of my dedication to maintaining my proficiency to practice I regularly attend continuing professional development courses.

Before entering the psychotherapeutic work, I worked in business where I worked as a coach helping people develop their relationships and self-awareness within the work place. I have over 12 years experience of working with people to develop themselves.

I have focused my work within the private sector, charity and insurance sectors, seeing clients for both short term and long term counselling.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
