About me
Hello and welcome to my profile. I am a fully qualified counsellor who can offer you time and a confidential space where you can talk freely in sessions and bring any concerns that come to mind. Starting therapy isn’t an easy thing to do, especially if you are finding things difficult at the moment, but talking about things is a positive step. My training is in psychodynamic psychotherapy, which can help gain insight to your current problems by looking at patterns of thinking or feeling that have become stuck or are holding you back. This form of therapy can help get to the root of the problem to create long-lasting change.
In brief
I create a supportive space for us to work together to deal with whatever is troubling you at the moment, people don't often come because things are falling apart, instead it's often things that build up over time. For example, feeling anxious a lot of the time, overthinking and not being able to switch off, relationship difficulties, feeling low, flat or stuck, work stress/burnout, or simply a loss or change that hasn't quite settled. Many people feel like they should cope on their own and yes, we all cope in different ways. Talking to friends and keeping busy can help, however counselling offers something different, it's not about being told what to do, it's a space just for you without judgement, there is no need to protect anyone else and no pressure to be a certain way. Counselling can help you to unpack what’s on your mind, to understand some of the feelings and actions that are contributing to the problems in your life. It is no miraculous cure for feeling down at times, but it certainly can help you to grow as a person and react differently to challenging situations in the future.
Some practicalities:
I currently have availability on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays during the day.
I start with an initial free 15-minute phone session, to talk about what has made you want to start therapy. For therapy to be useful, research suggests that it isn’t the type of therapy that you have, but whether you feel you can trust the therapist and have a good relationship which is most important. This is the chance to find out about each other and see how it feels talking, and maybe book in some sessions from there. There is no pressure to commit.
How many sessions:
We can work together until we feel ready to end, reviewing as we go, or you can start with 12-16 weekly sessions and agree to end after that time. Each counselling session lasts for 50 minutes, and I would normally need at least two weeks' notice if you decide to end, so we can round up the work we have being doing effectively.
Payment:
I currently have availability on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesdays and charge £60 per session via Zoom/Teams and £70 in person, to be paid via bank transfer before each session.

Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
