MBACP, trauma-informed, Transactional Analysis counsellor

About me

Hi, I'm Natalie of Firefly Counselling. Change is possible and often simple, but not always easy. To change we need to willingly embrace uncertainty and trust the process of transformation. My role as a counsellor is to support you as you identify, explore, and enact the changes you want to make in your life and I'm committed to walking alongside you as you travel a path that may feel difficult and unfamiliar – though hopefully exciting because with change comes hope and possibility. The therapeutic experience is a journey in which my role is to help you explore your surroundings and navigate new and perhaps daunting paths.

As the firefly represents self-illumination and self-awareness, I trust that you inherently know what is right for you – I'm here to offer support and encouragement as you grow towards the life you truly want for yourself. Together we find a light in the darkness.

Training, qualifications & experience

My counselling integrates Transactional Analysis, Gestalt and Person-centred theory and I offer various techniques that may be approached in a profound or creative way.

Transactional Analysis focuses on how we relate and communicate with others and ourselves, with the goal of improving relationships and resolving emotional issues. Together we can identify patterns of relating and behaviour to examine how these influence interactions whilst considering possible changes or improvements.

Gestalt therapy can encourage us to live more in the present moment, aiding greater self-awareness and acceptance. Our work together can help us to gain understanding of the context of your life and immediate experiences, inviting deeper exploration of current thoughts, feelings, and behaviours in a holistic way.

Person-centred therapy underpins the work we undertake together, prioritising the quality of the therapeutic relationship whilst recognising your capacity for self-growth and self-healing. By focusing on your subjective experience and inner resources, I help to guide you towards self-discovery and personal development; my role is to create a safe and supportive environment where you can explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences free from judgement.

As we are all unique, I believe an integrative approach enables me to work with each client in a way that suits them and their particular issues or circumstances.

I'm also a Trauma-Informed practitioner and I have experience and expertise in many areas, including (but not limited to): Addiction, Alcohol Use, Anger Management, Anxiety, Behavioural Issues, Bereavement, Coping Skills, Depression, Emotional Disturbance, Family Conflict, Relationship Issues, Self Esteem, Stress, and PTSD.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
