About me

I am a qualified Psychodynamic Counsellor offering 1:1 therapeutic counselling in Edinburgh east.   Counselling can give you space to let the things that are troubling you unfold, at a pace that suits you.  In my way of being with you I will attune to what is happening for you in the present.

Your counselling sessions are highly confidential to me and they would be held weekly in my counselling rooms in Edinburgh.

As a Psychodynamic Counsellor I am trained to enable you to explore areas of difficulty in your life which might be holding you back from living a fuller life, this might also include overwhelming feelings such as anxiety, depression, helplessness, despair or parts of your past which you wish to explore in a confidential space.

If you are seeking counselling just now I look forward to hearing from you. We could have a brief introductory call and then we can arrange suitable times for your sessions.

Training, qualifications & experience

My therapeutic modality is in Psychodynamic Counselling, which is an in-depth training with roots in psychoanalytic theory.   In training to become a psychodynamic counsellor I was required to have my own personal therapy, aswell as take part in regular experiential groups and seminars. I was closely supervised by highly qualified counsellors and training staff, and I continue to be associated with my training organisation for CPD.

My post-qualifying counselling experience includes working within third sector counselling services and private practice, I have also worked with younger adults in education and I have had the privilege of working with individuals from a range of backgrounds, cultures, ages, circumstances and stages of life.

I am a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy and adhere to their Ethical Framework of values, principles, and good standards of practice for counselling and psychotherapy.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
