About me

Hello and welcome. My name is Moira O'Hara and I have practised as a psychotherapist/counsellor for over twenty years. Whatever you are struggling with, whether it is a past experience or a problem in the present, counselling and therapy can help. However difficult things might feel at the moment and whatever your goals, with the right support you will find a way to move forward. But, it is important to find a way that is best for you. Take your time to choose the person you want to work with. No single therapeutic approach is right for everyone and no single therapist is right for everyone.

It is my aim to provide an environment where you feel safe and able to talk freely about whatever it is that is troubling you. You will be heard with respect and without judgement. Together we can work towards resolving any issues you have, problems you are facing or reaching goals you have set for yourself.

Training, qualifications & experience

I work as an integrative practitioner, mixing different models and approaches to best suit the person I am working with as I have learned through experience that no single model is right for everyone. I have trained in Person-centred counselling (Diploma); Transactional Analysis Psychotherapy (Advanced Diploma); and EMDR (Level III). Among other theories I have also studied positive psychology, psychodynamic therapy, solution-focussed therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, anger management, compassion focussed therapy and motivational interviewing.

I currently work in private practice but before this I worked in a number of charitable organisations providing therapy to people who had experienced sexual and domestic violence and to individuals with substance-use and addiction issues.

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
