About me
Hello and welcome to Friar Gate Counselling & Psychotherapy, an affordable, empathic, caring and confidential counselling and psychotherapy service where positive outcomes can be explored.
I am Miricia, an experienced, fully qualified BACP registered counsellor and psychotherapist. I have many years' experience in the mental health field along with formal training that provides me with a solid foundation to practise as an integrative psychotherapist. I have worked in private practice, businesses, charities and schools, with adults and children.
I offer face to face and remote sessions.
I am located at 32 Friar Gate, in Derby's professional quarter, right next to the Friar Gate bridge.
As an integrative psychotherapist, I aim to provide a professional, welcoming, confidential and non-judgmental service with the focus being on each individual's unique therapeutic needs. I provide a private counselling service, for short term crisis intervention, time-limited or open-ended therapy depending on the client's needs and their situation.
Through the therapeutic relationship, I will aim to help you discover and explore new ways of approaching life – ways which are less compromised by previous behavioural patterns which have contributed to your ability to cope and function in the present. I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and adhere to their Code of Ethics.
In addition to my private practice I have experience in various mental health settings, having worked in the mental health field for the NHS in London, and as a counsellor for various employee assistance programmes, community counselling services, SV2 and as a voluntary counsellor and referral officer in South Africa.
I also have diverse experience of working with clients with enduring mental health issues and working with clients from different cultures and all walks of life. I can offer you a caring and confidential service where you can explore positive solutions that are right for you and your situation.
I have a special interest in working with:
- trauma
- sexual and gender identity
- self worth
- anxiety

Member organisations

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
