About me

I am a professional and experienced integrative counsellor. Since qualifying, I now work for The Awareness Centre, a registered healthcare provider, counselling adults who suffer from a range of psychological difficulties.

As a member of the BACP, I work in accordance with the Ethical Framework which sets out expected ethical practice, values and good practice standards for BACP members. I am also bound by The Awareness Centre's own ethical framework where I am committed to encourage equality, diversity and inclusion.

The approach I use is integrative, which means I am trained in a combination of counselling modalities, including Person-Centred, Psychodynamic and Solution-Focused Therapy.

Being Person-Centred, I provide a confidential, safe, respectful, and non-judgemental space for you to explore issues you may be experiencing.

Emotions are indications that something either positive or negative (or sometimes a mixture of these) is taking place. If they are acknowledged and valued, they can help us move on. Of course, the acknowledgement of some feelings can itself be a painful process.

Recognition of the important role of emotions in our functioning often has a releasing effect on other aspects of human experience and enhances the quality of living. This is especially true for those of us who were taught to squash feelings or mistrust them in some way.

I would like the opportunity to help you to discover that trusting in oneself and acting on that trust brings positive benefits.

If we act on how we believe we ought to act, determined by the pressures of others, then it is more difficult to develop our own points of view or to grow, because it is more difficult to integrate our own experiences.

My aim is to help you discover for yourself and in your own way, the resources you need for change and growth.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
