About me

About me:
I am a trained qualified and experienced therapeutic Counsellor and Counselling Supervisor. My work so far has been with Adults ranging from 18 to 80+, both with individual's and with Couples. My counselling diploma training was an integrative approach, meaning I can pull on various theories as I work with each individual. Much of my early experience was providing counselling within substance misuse services. Where clients present with Alcohol or drug problems, & sometimes required counselling to work through various topics. Through my private practice I have supported clients, with varying presenting difficulties. During my time as a counsellor in Wiltshire I have been privileged to work with many wonderful & unique individuals from all walks of life. In this time I have continued to expanded my training to also be able to offer motivational enhancement therapy & Behavioural couples therapy (specific to addiction).

I have also attended a further course to gain a level 7 Advanced diploma qualification & I have experience of providing counselling supervision since December 2013. I can offer both individual or group supervision, face to face, telephone or video conference, I have experience of all.

My Experience:
As mentioned above I have extensive experience working with adults within substance misuse services. I consider every individual I work with as unique, and therefore work with them in this way. Previous clients have presented with a wide range of presenting difficulties, including:

  • Addictions
  • Depression & Low mood
  • Anxiety & Stress
  • Self Harm & Suicidal thoughts
  • Low self esteem
  • Relationships
  • Domestic abuse
  • Anger
  • Loss
  • Loneliness
  • Sexuality
  • Life changes

As an Integrative Counsellor I can incorporate the following theories into our work:

Humanistic - person centered
Psychodynamic - looking at the past
Transactional Analysis - behaviour & relationships
Motivational interviewing - working with ambivalence
Cognitive behavioural therapy - thought patterns & behaviours

I can also offer Behavioural Couples Therapy, this can be any cohabiting relationship not just intimate couples, e.g. this could be adult siblings or parent and adult child, the work is focused on the behaviour within the relationship and how you can move forward, whilst also rebuilding trust. This is usually a 12 to 20 week programme. Please ask me if you would like more information about this.

What can counselling offer you?
Counselling can offer you a safe, confidential place to explore and talk about your thoughts, feelings & exploring anything that may be confusing, painful or uncomfortable. It allows you to talk with someone who is trained to listen attentively and to support you whilst you work through difficulties.

What I can offer
I can offer you a safe, confidential, and non judgemental space to explore any current or historic concerns, to work out who you are, where you are and where you want to be. Offering you support & to empower you to make changes for yourself. I can continue to support you whilst you consider any changes you may wish to make to enable you to reach or get closer to your goals.

During your first session we will discuss what it is you are looking for and how I can best meet your requirements. We will agree terms for our work together e.g. confidentiality, times, cost and check that we both have the same understanding. You can then decide if you feel I am the right person for you to work with.

If you feel for whatever reason you can not attend a venue for counselling and require telephone counselling let me know, and we can discuss how we can make this work for you.

I currently offer evening appointments only

The rooms I use are comfortable, close to town, close to car parks, bus stops & train station.

Depending on your individual needs I offer both long and short term counselling.

Other info:
I am continuing to work 5 days a week within the substance misuse team in Wiltshire. Which means I am still required to attend regular mandatory training, including safeguarding and risk. I am also required to maintain my own professional development.
My most recent enhanced DBS (old CRB) was completed in December 2020, and is completely clear. I am happy to share this with you if required.

I am a registered member of the British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP) and follow their ethical code. I am also an accredited member of The National Counselling Society.

Please email, text or call if you would like to chat about counselling and explore what you are looking for. If I do not answer your call I may be with a client please do leave your name and number I will return your call ASAP.

If you know you would like to go ahead with counselling please let me know if you have specific days or times you can be available for counselling sessions. And I will try my best to meet your needs.
