About me

If you are reading this, you have taken the first brave step in aiming to address some difficulties you are facing. Speaking openly about our problems can feel daunting at first. Counselling provides an empathic space to talk and try to make sense of our feelings and emotions, increasing our self-awareness and sense of well-being.

Choosing a suitable Counsellor can feel difficult, beginning the process can feel even harder! I aim to build a trusting relationship as is essential for Therapeutic growth, therefore I work in a client-focused way creating that secure space, you are the expert, therefore sessions will be aligned to your needs and wants from therapy.

I offer a safe confidential space to explore thoughts and feelings without judgment. This can be over the telephone or via video link, both can be beneficial in different ways. My role is to listen without advising, but respectfully challenge with questions allowing you to find your own answers and solutions for greater resilience to manage life’s challenges. Even though we are seeing mental health cases rising, we are still not talking about it enough or accepting its part of being human! I aim to help others accept themselves and reduce the stigmas society places on us, this improving our well-being.

I have been a practising BACP Integrative Counsellor for 9 years and prior have a background of support in the Homeless, Addiction and Criminality sector. I have worked with children and young people across schools in Co. Durham and spent some time working with bereaved adults and young people in a hospice setting. My current work involves private therapy dealing with many issues inc. Anxiety, Depression, Menopause, Bereavement and Loss, ADHD and Neurodiversity, work related stress, family and relationship issues.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
