About me

Welcome to my counselling service, OpenView Counselling. The aim of my site is to give you a brief introduction to myself and the kind of work that I do, to help you decide if counselling with me is right for you.

You may have been considering counselling for some time or you may be at a crisis point in your life; whatever has prompted your visit to my site today, I can assure you of my professional approach in every aspect of our counselling relationship.

My name is Maxine Buckley and I am an experienced and qualified counsellor and clinical supervisor currently working in the health sector and in private practice.

MY APPROACH

I work with a person centred approach, which is based on the relationship between the client and the counsellor. I have no stake in your decisions or fixed opinions on how you should lead your life and I will remain non-judgmental, empathic and genuine at all times.

In our sessions you will find a space to talk openly, giving you the opportunity to express any thoughts, feelings or fears and I offer you a promise that I will work with you and assist you in exploring and understanding those issues either in crisis or from a longer term, deeply embedded psychological problem. I will help you to become more aware of your own coping abilities which in time can give you the confidence to deal with both present and future situations or minimise their effect, allowing you to live a more satisfying life.

I am accreditated by the BACP and comply with the ethics of my profession but do not allow it to harness or detract from who I am; I am as unique in the counselling situation as you are in your life and whilst I offer you my qualifications and experience as a benchmark for your choice of an ethical therapist, I also offer myself, my passion for counselling and my belief in how it can help you to make changes or come to terms with situations in your life and if you are ready and willing to work with me our alliance will be a success.

I do not see a ‘typical’ client; each person is unique, and you can talk about anything in counselling and below are just a few of the issues clients bring. If I felt I could not meet your particular needs I would help you to find someone who may be more appropriate.

COUPLES - I have experience working with couples mainly using a six session model which aims to focus on the difficulties being experienced in their relationship,  talking through thoughts and feelings and finding a way forward.

CLINICAL SUPERVISOR

I am also a qualified clinical supervisor offering supervision to qualified and trainee counsellors in private practice and as part of my role in the NHS.

Training, qualifications & experience

I live in Rossendale and work in the NHS and in my private practice as a counsellor and clinical supervisor. I hold a professional Counselling Diploma and am also a qualified NHS Mediator, Trainer and qualified clinical supervisor offering counselling supervision to qualified and trainee counsellors. I am an Accreditated member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and am guided by the BACP ethical framework, am fully insured for practice, hold a current enhanced CRB, and undertake regular professional supervision and continued professional development.

My current work as a counsellor in the NHS and private practice and my previous work in schools, and the voluntary sector has provided me with a broad experience of successfully counselling men, women and couples  through both long and short term therapy.

My counselling experience includes work in bereavement, domestic violence and substance misuse units, work for a national organisation offering therapy in schools and also operating a counselling service in hostels in the Manchester area.

Like everyone I have experienced my own personal life challenges including the stress of management in both industry and self employment and the distress caused by redundancy and I am passionate about offering others the opportunity to explore their issues.

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

FACE TO FACE COUNSELLING

In my private practice I work from a dedicated counselling room with private access in my home in Rossendale, situated in a discreet and quiet location, providing a safe and confidential environment for us to work in. The location is close to Haslingden with convenient motorway access and I will provide the address and directions for your first visit.

The initial consultation session  allows time for me to give you more information and answer any questions and time for you to explore any issues you wish to bring to counselling. If you decide my approach is right for you and we agree to continue, we would arrange a time and day to meet for your first session. There is no obligation to book further sessions and you will be free to go away and think things over before committing yourself to future work.
