About me
Hello, I am Max Hutchinson, an Integrative Psychotherapeutic Counsellor based in Liverpool.
Regardless of the setting of therapy, it is a professional process. You and your life experiences are treated with respect. My main way of therapy is co-creative and relational, and this means that the therapeutic process is developed together, right from the start. It can be anxiety-inducing, if not outright intimidating, bringing your vulnerability to someone you don’t know in an unfamiliar place. This is why we, through Transactional Analysis, bring together a treatment plan, in order to provide a clear sense of what is needed from the offset. A treatment plan can also enable enough space to adapt and change throughout the therapeutic process.
I provide in person, online through Google Meet, and outdoor counselling for adult clients (18+). My areas which I work with include but isn’t limited to depression, anxiety, and Men’s Issues.
I provide therapy online, in person and outdoors in the South Liverpool area. My current availability is most weekday evenings, with Wednesday evenings being unavailable.
My main locations for outdoor work are Wavertree Botanic Gardens and Childwall Woods, in South Liverpool.
My in person sessions are located at the Aigburth Counselling Centre based in South Liverpool. We will need to discuss in person therapy in advance before booking in sessions. This is due to limited availability of rooms in evenings.
I offer a free, 30 minute consultation meeting to explore how I am able to help within my professional boundaries, and to see if we are comfortable with working together.
All consultation meetings are online.
I believe that a commitment to weekly sessions provide the best therapeutic support. I normally do not provide biweekly therapy sessions. However, this can be discussed further in consultation.
Training, qualifications & experience
The core of my training is in Transactional Analysis (TA) with a specialisation of Outdoor Therapy. TA was originally founded by Eric Berne, who sought to provide a deeper understanding of human behaviour. One of the core fundamentals of TA is the life position of “I’m ok, You’re OK.” This position is where individuals see both themselves and others in a positive light, and fosters healthy communication.
I have a Level 6 Diploma in Integrative Psychotherapeutic Counselling from Red Kite Training and Therapy.
I run my own practice, and have previous placement experience in the NHS and private social enterprises.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
