About me

I’m Matt (they/them), I’m a qualified counsellor and psychotherapist who is approachable, warm and listens without any judgement to everything you would like to bring to therapy. My core modality is person-centred which means I believe you have all the answers. My job is to help you better understand and accept all parts of you.

I believe one of the most important factors of successful therapy is the relationship between therapist and client. So it is important to find someone you feel comfortable with. If we work together my first task is to build a strong therapeutic relationship between us. One which is open, accepting, understanding and honest. Together we can explore all of who you are, integrating all parts of you.

I am neurodivergent and queer myself. I have a special interest in working with those who are struggling with their identity. Particularly those who are exploring neurodivergence, gender, sexuality and their beliefs.

I work short term and long term, so whether you want to focus on a particular struggle or want to better understand who you really are.

My journey towards becoming a therapist was needing therapy myself. After many therapists (some better than others!) I now know myself better than I could have ever imagined. Knowing how much of a difference therapy has made in my life, I decided to become a therapist to help others.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have an MSc in Counselling & Psychotherapy and have experience working in different roles within the NHS, supporting cancer patients and the bereaving. I have also worked in the university setting, working with students.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
