About me
I’m Matt, I’m a qualified therapist and counsellor. I’m a real human and will bring my warmth, humour, care, honesty and acceptance to our sessions. I am specialised in the person-centred approach, which puts our relationship at the centre of therapy. We will work together to understand you, to help you process and to help you feel better within yourself.
Who you choose as your therapist is a really personal choice. Probably the most important aspect of therapy is a good relationship between the therapist and the client. Really it’s about who you like, who you connect with and crucially who you feel that you can trust.
I work with everyone! I love working with a wide diversity of issues and a wide diversity of people. Some of the areas I have more experience with are listed below:
- Neurodivergence
- Bereavement
- Depression
- Anxiety
- LGBTQ+
- Low self esteem
- Trauma
- Relationship issues
As a neurodivergent (autistic, ADHD & dyspraxia) person myself, I really enjoy working with those exploring their own neurodivergence. I have a bunch more info about neurodivergence, all the labels and how I can help on my website.
I work short term and long term, so whether you want to focus on a particular struggle or want to better understand who you really are.
Contact me to book in a call or if you’d like to know more, you can find lots of info on my website.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have an MSc in Counselling & Psychotherapy and have experience working in different roles within the NHS, supporting cancer patients and the bereaving. I have also worked in the university setting, working with students.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
