About me

Mary Watson Psychodynamic Counsellor MBACP (Accred)

I offer brief and long term one to one counselling for adults and young people 18+

I work with a wide range of issues such as: relationship difficulties, anxiety, depression, bereavement, low self esteem, work-related problems, as well as the many other issues which may be impacting your quality of life and emotional wellbeing.

My approach is mostly Psychodynamic, but also informed by a number of counselling models.
Looking at problems in the present but, crucially, at the roots of these problems in the past.

Helping you discover, identify and recognise how emotional patterns from early childhood may repeat themselves in later life in confusing or destructive ways.

You can call or email me to set up an initial session, where we can explore what you would like to get out of our sessions.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Further information

I am a professionally trained and experienced Psychodynamic Counsellor, Accredited with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP)
I offer brief and long term one to one counselling for adults and young people 18+

Alongside my private practice, I have worked in religious settings in the area of Counselling, Formation and Human development.

I have previously worked for Arise, an independent Christian charity offering affordable Counselling.

I can help you identify how emotional patterns from early life experience can repeat themselves in later life, and how developing personal insight and better understanding can bring about positive change and healing.

By coming to terms with loss and other life experiences, we may begin to change the way we view ourselves and the world  This can lead us to begin to experience life differently which can, in turn, impact our relationships and the people around us positively.

I can offer a secure, confidential setting in which to explore and enable a better understanding of ourselves to develop, bringing new perspectives and opportunities for change.
