About me
I'm Mary Crowley and I'd really like to welcome you my counselling practice. I've been counselling in Gloucestershire for over 18 years and have been very privileged to share this uniquely personal journey with many clients. I hope you too will find a way to give yourself the time and opportunity to receive the understanding and support that will help you turn things around. I have extensive experience of counselling adults of all ages.
Are you feeling anxious, overwhelmed or worried? Perhaps your mood has been low for a while and you can't seem to shift that feeling.
Has something happened recently, or in the past that's affecting how things are for you today? Maybe you want to make some changes but feel stuck in negative and destructive patterns of behaviour?
Sometimes it's hard to talk to those closest to you, but saying things out loud to a skilled person can often make you feel less isolated and overwhelmed. Counselling offers you a confidential space to explore thoughts and feelings.
I'm an experienced and fully qualified Psychodynamic counsellor. I'm an accredited and registered member member of the British Association For Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and abide by their code of ethics.
I understand that seeking help can feel daunting - you may feel overwhelmed by life's events or finding it hard to imagine things will ever change - but seeking help is a very positive step. I can talk you through your problems with genuine warmth and understanding, free from any judgement or criticism; my only aim is to help you get to a better place in life.
My counselling approach helps you to examine past and present experiences, feelings and early relationships to understand how these may be affecting how you live your life today. Painful memories can often result in us repeating the same negative patterns of behaviour, which can damage us and our relationships.
I can offer you a safe and confidential space to help you understand the root of your problems. This quiet, supportive, safe space can help you think about your life, about who you are, give you the time and space to grieve, to heal, to see things from a different perspective, and enable change.
I will guide you through these explorations with the greatest of care, respect and understanding - helping you to recognize what may be affecting you and find different ways of coping , in order to lead a more positive life.
To make the first step in your journey, please get in touch. I am always happy to answer any questions, so please contact me - call 07544 501212 or email me and I will get back to you as soon as I can.

Member organisations
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
