About me
Hello! I am Martin. I'm wondering what brought you here today? Could it be you are not feeling quite good enough in your life at the moment? Have you used AI to try to find out what it is you are feeling, worrying about or ruminating on? Now is the time to explore some of these issues with an experienced counsellor like me. With over five and a half years of therapy practice, I have worked collaboratively with people to reduce anxiety, increase mood and self-esteem, and overcome the challenges life offers us. For you, here, now looking at this profile, we can find understanding and meaning on the first step to a good enough life.
I offer an integrative therapy model including CBT, Psychodynamic and Compassionate Focused Therapy. For example, challenging negative thought patterns and behaviours, finding a compassionate inner voice to reduce the critical voice, or exploring patterns and behaviours from your past that are causing you to feel stuck.
Clients whom I have worked with include LGBTQ+ affirmative counselling (identity/sexuality/internalising negative self-worth/relationships), people working in the creative industries (feeling like an imposter/people pleasing/not feeling good enough), and anyone with a strong critical inner voice (anxiety/people pleasing/perfectionism/OCD/Relationships).
Training, qualifications & experience
My qualifications include a COSCA Counselling Skills Certificate and the SCOTACS Diploma in Counselling and Groupwork – A Cognitive Behavioural Approach. My previous studies have helped me gain a Postgraduate Diploma in Community Education and a Postgraduate Diploma in Gender Studies. I continue to add to my practice through Continuing Professional Development (CPD). I am currently nearing the end of a Postgraduate Diploma in Human Relations and Counselling (2023-2026), adding a Psychodynamic element to my CBT counselling practice. Therefore, offering an Integrated approach to my counselling practice.
In addition to being a qualified counsellor. I tutor classes in the COSCA Certificate in Counselling Skills at the University of Strathclyde. I volunteer 3 hours a week as a counsellor with LGBT Health & Wellbeing, based in Glasgow.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
