About me

What I do:-

I offer One to One counselling for Adult Trauma, Addiction, Anxiety, Depression, Life Transition and other life challenges and stresses. I can do face to face, virtual or sessions at a mutually convenient location.

How to explain what counselling is.......

If you are holding a cup of coffee and somebody accidentally bumps into you, you will most likely spill a  drop or two, or depending on the bump impact a few spoonfuls or more. If there had been tea or something else in your cup, the result would have been the same.

Your emotions and feelings are like the coffee, because sometimes when life comes along and shakes you (which will happen to us all),  whatever is inside your cup will spill out.  Some times life can be easier until you get bumped....but then you may need somebody to talk too. This is where counselling can help and I would be honoured to be the person to listen.

Throughout my twenty five year career in Children's Services, there are not many things I haven't heard.  Along with my own life experiences, bumps and "coffee spilling", I am hear to listen to you if you would like to contact me.

Training, qualifications & experience

  • Diploma in Counselling Practice
  • MA in Education
  • BA (Hons) Early Years
  • PGCE in Education

I am a psychodynamic counsellor and have had previous counselling experience for a charity working with parents experiencing life trauma's and stress.

I have been part of the local farming community where I live all of my life and understand the joys of this way of life and also the difficulties faced by many farmers. I know about the hard work and relentless pressure on many farmers in today's current climate and how this can make people feel stressed, overworked and in some cases suicidal. Farming in many circumstances may mean working in business with close family members, as lovely as this can be, I am also very aware of the extra stress this can cause and in some instances result in difficult family rifts. Many of my clients are from the farming community as they know I understand their circumstances which means they don't have to explain to me some things they may have to try and convey to another counsellor. I am happy to visit clients in a variety of places, if that will make counselling more accessible for them, currently seeing one client in his milking parlour while he works and another client in her horse stables while we stand and groom her horse.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Further information

Here I will tell you something about myself to help you decide if I am the right counsellor for you:

I am married, having been with my husband for over 25 years, we live in a remote part of the Staffordshire Moorlands near the county borders of Cheshire and Derbyshire. I love living in the countryside, I'm always in awe of nature and find the peace and tranquilly very relaxing. I originate from the Moorlands growing up on my parent’s smallholding with my younger brother and sister, where playing outside was a fun-filled and usually muddy experience! I have a love of many animals and if I ever get the opportunity would love to own some Grey Face Dartmoor sheep and some Highland cows as well as some Belted Galloways.

I have lived in several places over the years including Sheffield, this was a culture shock moving from a rural community but was a really vibrant, exciting place to be, with me meeting and working with many wonderful people. My career has been predominantly within Social Services working with families to help keep children safe, a big part of this has been listening to and supporting people, so it was a natural step for me to train as a psychodynamic counsellor which I enjoy and for me is a privilege to do.

In my spare time I like doing different things all of which bring me happiness including cooking, reading, travelling, swimming and exploring the beautiful world we live in. I've also been known to write the odd poem, I sing in a choir and play dominoes for a local pub, as the saying goes.....“Variety is the spice of life”.
