About me
Life can often feel overwhelming, and it’s natural to go through times when emotions seem difficult to manage. Our past experiences—whether they're from childhood, past relationships, or challenging life events—can have a significant impact on how we think, feel, and behave today. Sometimes, we carry unresolved emotions, beliefs, or trauma with us without even realising it, and these can shape our reactions, relationships, and overall sense of well-being
I can provide a safe, supportive space to explore what you're feeling, understand what's going on, and work on ways to cope or make sense of things and make you feel more in control.
My approach is compassionate and caring, with your needs at the heart of our work together. As a person-centred therapist, I believe everyone’s experience is unique and therefore you are the expert in your own life. I am a naturally warm person and will make sure you feel as relaxed and comfortable in our sessions as possible, as I know how scary it is to reach out and trust someone else with those scary thoughts and inner feelings. Your needs and healing process will be unique to you and my flexible and gentle approach will reflect that. In our sessions, you will feel heard and understood, and when I feel you are ready and it is safe to do so, I will incorporate gentle challenges into our work to fully explore what it is happening for you, and work towards the changes you want to make.
I have experience in helping clients with stress and anxiety, low self-esteem, depression, trauma and abuse, alongside numerous other concerns. I work in a trauma informed way with all my clients. This means I prioritise creating a safe, supportive and empathic environment and I am aware of the ways trauma affects a person’s emotional, mental, and physical health and I can help you manage the impact of these.
I offer sessions face to face in Chorley, online and over the phone. If you have any questions or would like to have a chat about whether counselling is right for you, then please email me at mariawiltshirecounselling@outlook.com or call me on 07867 806682.

Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
