About me

Are you feeling overwhelmed, anxious, struggling to manage your emotions, or need some help working through a difficult or traumatic experience? I can provide you with the right support to understand what’s going on for you, work on ways to cope and make sense of things and help you feel more in control.

My approach is compassionate and caring and your needs will be at the heart of our work together. As a person-centred therapist, I believe everyone’s experience is unique and therefore you are the expert in your own life. I am a naturally warm person and will make sure you feel as relaxed and comfortable in our sessions as possible. I aim to work in a neurodiversity affirming way as I appreciate that if you have ADHD, autism or any other neurodivergence, a 'typical' counselling setup may not be right for you.

Your process will be unique to you and my flexible and gentle approach will reflect that. In our sessions, you will feel heard and understood, and when I feel you are ready and it is safe to do so, I will incorporate gentle challenges into our work to fully explore what it is happening for you, and work towards the changes you want to make.

I have had years of experience helping clients with stress and anxiety, low self-esteem, depression, and working through difficult events or periods of their life.

I specialise in trauma, specifically working with people who have experienced sexual abuse or violence either in childhood or more recently. I appreciate how especially difficult it is to reach out and ask for help with this, but having read this far, I encourage you to give me a call, or email me and I will support you through those difficult first steps which may just change your life. Your query will be dealt with sensitively and in complete confidence.

I work in a trauma informed way with all my clients. This means I prioritise creating a safe, supportive and empathic environment and I am aware of the ways trauma affects a person’s emotional, mental, and physical health and I can help you manage the impact of these.

I offer sessions face to face in Chorley, online and over the phone. If you have any questions or would like to have a chat about whether counselling is right for you, then please email me at mariawiltshirecounselling@outlook.com or call me on 07867 806682.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
