Maria Laxton Dip Couns MACC (Accredited Counsellor/ Psychotherapist)
19-23 Field St
As a qualified therapist, experienced in a wide range of issues , I offer a place where you will feel held, cared for, and really listened to, so that you can look at the things that are troubling you safely and at your pace.
As you think about working with a Therapist you are looking at making a significant investment in yourself both in time and finances and I believe it needs to be right for you. Therefore I will work with you to help you plan how to get the best value out of your therapy. Whether you are looking long or short term, I will help you define your goals and support you as you work towards them
Issues such as
General worry, stress or anxiety.
Difficulties in relationships
Feeling low and don't know why
Significant life event such as redundancy, bereavement, retirement or a relationship breakup,
Childhood issues that have surfaced and are now troubling you
Facing important Life decisions and don't know how to proceed.
These can really hold us back from living our lives in freedom and peace, becoming all that we can be, and doing all that we want to do
I work using the Person Centered approach which means that it is very much led by you the client.
We will work on the things that trouble you, helping you to discover your own solutions and to be empowered to make your own life changes. I value the whole person, physical, emotional and spiritual, and I believe these all intertwine to make You the unique You that You are.
I also offer short term or "one off" appointments if there is a specific issue that you just need a bit of help with, although these sessions do tend to work better for those who have had previous positive experiences in therapy.
I have an office where I offer Counselling in Shepshed which is part of a public building with people coming and going throughout the day. Alternatively I am able to offer Counselling in Castle Donington from my home during school term time. I use a downstairs room and my home is private and quiet during the day. There is car parking available at both locations.
Please contact me if you would like to talk more about what I can offer to equip you to move on in your life.

Fees are £45 per 1hr session, £60 for Couples.
I offer an initial discounted rate for the first session of £30 so that you can see if you like working with me and for me to assess if I am able to work with you. At the end of this session if you do not want to proceed then you are under no obligations. If appropriate I will try to help you to find someone else who may be a better fit to work with you.
I have a limited number of reduced fee places available for those on low or no income. These are daytime appointment slots and proof of low income will be required. At first meeting we would have a discussion around what is affordable for you but there is a minimum fee of £10.
Please note there could be a waiting list for these places.
Fees for Students in training - £35/hour.
I have significant prior managerial experience in Industry and understand the challenges of the modern busy workplace. Issues such as work / life balance, difficulties in relationships with bosses, peers and direct reports, lack of confidence, or worry around how you present yourself or in public speaking etc.
All these can all be explored to help you discover more of who you are and equip you to make the right decisions or changes in a key area of your life. This is particularly true if you feel these are currently holding you back from where you would like to be.
