About me
Hello, I’m Dr Maren Kihle Svensen, a Chartered Counselling Psychologist. People come to therapy for many different reasons. You might be feeling overwhelmed, stuck in patterns you don’t understand, or wanting a space to think more clearly about your life. Whatever brings you here, therapy offers a place to slow down and explore what’s going on with curiosity rather than judgment.
My approach to therapy is integrative; I draw on a range of psychological models to suit the person I’m working with rather than trying to fit you into one approach, including CBT, psychodynamic and person-centred therapy.
I have worked with adults from a wide range of cultural and personal backgrounds across the NHS, private practice, and charitable services. I support people experiencing anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, OCD, psychosis, bereavement, self-esteem and body image challenges, physical health conditions and neurodivergent backgrounds.
If you feel this might be the kind of space you’re looking for, please feel free to get in touch.
Training, qualifications & experience
I completed my doctoral training at the University of Roehampton and I am registered with the HCPC as a Doctor of Counselling Psychology.
I have worked with a diverse range of clients, coming from various cultural, and ethnic backgrounds across NHS, private practice, and charities. My specialist experience lies within adults experiencing low mood and anxiety; depression; relationship difficulties; OCD; psychosis; bereavement and loss, low self-esteem and body-image difficulties. I also have experience supporting clients and their families with cancer, chronic health conditions, and neurodivergent backgrounds. I have a particular interest in understanding the impact that living with a physical illness can have on mental health and well-being.

school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
The HCPC are an independent, UK-wide health regulator. They set standards of professional training, performance and conduct for 16 professions.
They keep a register of health professionals who meet their standards, and they take action if registered health professionals fall below those standards. They were created by a piece of legislation called the Health Professions Order 2001.
Registration means that a health professional meets national standards for their professional training, performance and conduct.
