About me

I'm Marcus O'Shea, and I'm a counsellor and psychotherapist specialising in anxiety, depression, trauma (including PTSD and C-PTSD), ADHD, neurodivergent issues, motivation, burnout, low self-esteem, disability, Autism, and LGBT issues. I also offer a free introductory meeting so you can find out if I'm the right fit for you.

I work in a collaborative and flexible manner, with understanding my client's stories and experiences as my priority. Integrating a variety of approaches and tools, I aim to work together with you to learn about your unique experience and how to best foster healing and growth. I actively seek feedback and open dialogue with clients to consistently improve my practice, an approach which has been proven to improve outcomes for clients.

I believe each client is unique, and seek to establish an empathic, accepting space where you can feel safe to share your feelings and experiences, talk through the issues you’re facing, and find the solution that’s right for you.

From there, I can offer a variety of tools and techniques that can help between sessions to help with issues such as anxiety, mood, habit change, addiction, self-esteem, impulsiveness, and motivation, drawn from the Somatic, Solutions Focused, Cognitive-Behavioural, ACT, and Mindfulness schools of therapy.

I also work from a trauma informed and trained basis, which means I am experienced in how to work through and process trauma with clients in a safe manner.

I’m educated in a variety of approaches and toolsets, in order to offer counselling and solutions that suit you best. Specialist areas of focus include depression and anxiety, burnout and motivation loss, trauma, somatic issues, neurodiversity, ADHD, disability issues, and LGBTQ+ issues. I also offer an informed space to talk about polyamorous and non-monogamous relationship issues.

"Marcus creates a safe and supportive environment where I feel comfortable opening up about my struggles. They provided an empathetic and understandable approach, combined with useful, thoughtful tools. Within only a few sessions I'd improved my anxiety and was feeling way better about myself and my feelings." - A. M. Client

Training, qualifications & experience

I hold a Master's degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy with additional training in trauma informed counselling, Written Exposure Therapy for PTSD, mindfulness, neurodiversity, and LGBTQ+ issues.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
