About me

Welcome, I'm Manjit, and I am the founder of Family and Systemic Therapy, a specialist psychotherapy service for individuals, couples and families. I work intuitively to support clients understand the thoughts and feelings keeping them stuck, and further away from the types of relationships they want.

Many of the clients that I meet, choose me for my cultural curiosity and experience of working across generations. In our work together, I help clients to map out what inherited influences are having the most impact. For some, struggling to connect with others beyond  the surface level, fleeting dating encounters and avoidant or ambivalent traits, can be because of a fear of vulnerability and a lack of early nurturing experiences. These ‘styles’ are not fixed, and we can work together to break cycles of people pleasing and start meeting your needs.

In my work with couples, one of the most common threads is differences in communication. Often, it is not what is being said, but all the things that are not being said and left for interpretation. This can leave both partners feeling anxious, unheard and misunderstood. My role is to track these moments, build a greater understanding of individual communication styles and more importantly, what to do when we shut down. Couples do not need to be in crisis to seek therapy. I have supported many couples find their voice, build intimacy and understand changes in their relationships with age and life stage. Sometimes this means ending the relationship and we work together to find a shared way to end.

I also have an interest in trauma and help clients to see the legacies of family trauma on them today, including the impact on the body and the mind. I guide clients to where trauma is stored in the body and we pay attention, in real time, to the fight, flight, freeze responses associated with the trauma.

Systemic therapy can work for individuals, couples and families. To learn more about how systemic therapy could support you, contact me for an initial, no obligation call.

Further information

As a brown therapist, I understand the unique needs of first generation immigrants and their children. Living in multiple cultures presents a number of challenges that may be hard to understand. In my culturally informed work, I support clients to find an identity within and outside of the family, examine the roles they take in the family, and practice forming healthier boundaries. I also encourage us to view our work within the context of society today, the pressures to meet expectations, the changing landscape of relationships.

I will be offering a weekly therapeutically informed group for women wishing to explore these issues further.  Contact me for more information.
