About me
Hello, I'm Maddy White. I'm a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), offering integrative counselling to adults and young people aged 16+.
I offer 50-minute sessions either online or from my Shepherd's Hut near the Avebury Stones in Wiltshire.
You may be dealing with anxiety, stress, low self-esteem, grief or relationship difficulties, or feeling overwhelmed by work, family or everyday life. You may be going through a period of change or simply finding that life isn't feeling as you would like it to.
I also work with people experiencing the physical and emotional changes that can come at different stages of life. Whatever has brought you to counselling, we can explore what is happening and what you would like to understand or change.
Training, qualifications & experience
I hold a CPCAB Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling and am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). My core training is person-centred, and I am currently studying CPCAB Level 5 CBT. I have also completed Foundation 1 training in Solution-Focused Brief Therapy.
Alongside my private practice, I work as a Welfare Counsellor within performing arts education, supporting young people and young adults. My previous career in racing and equestrian settings, including welfare roles, has also given me experience of working with people facing demanding circumstances. I have experience of supporting people affected by addiction.
I receive regular supervision and continue to undertake professional development as part of my practice.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information
I offer a free 20-minute telephone or online consultation for anyone considering counselling. This gives us an opportunity to talk about what you are looking for and whether I might be the right counsellor for you.
Counselling can be short or longer-term, depending on what you need. You don't need to know exactly what you want to work on before getting in touch.
My Shepherd's Hut is a separate, private space with its own entrance and off-street parking. There are 4 steps into the hut, so it may not be suitable for everyone. Online sessions are available as an alternative.
