About me

Hi, I’m Lynn, and I run Sunny Souls Therapy.

I offer Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) for adults in a warm, supportive and non-judgemental environment. I work with people experiencing anxiety, overthinking, low mood, stress, low self-esteem, addiction and recovery, as well as patterns of thinking or behaviour that may be leaving them feeling stuck.

My approach is practical, compassionate and collaborative. We work on therapy together. We’ll take time to understand what is happening for you, what may be contributing to or maintaining the difficulties you are experiencing, and what you would like to change.

CBT can help you understand the connection between your thoughts, emotions and behaviours. Together, we can begin to recognise unhelpful patterns and develop practical strategies that you can use in everyday life. The aim isn't simply to talk about what's difficult, but to help you build the understanding and tools to make meaningful, manageable changes.

Addiction and recovery are particular areas of interest within my practice. Recovery can involve much more than stopping a substance or behaviour. It can mean learning to understand triggers, manage difficult emotions, develop healthier ways of coping, rebuild routines and relationships, and adjust to life in recovery. I provide a confidential space to explore these areas without judgement.

You may also be considering therapy without being able to identify one particular problem. Perhaps you feel overwhelmed, disconnected, stuck in the same cycle, or simply know that something needs to change. You don't need to have everything figured out before getting in touch.

Taking the first step towards therapy can feel daunting. My aim is to make that first step as comfortable as possible and provide a space where you feel listened to, respected and able to be yourself.

I offer face-to-face CBT in the Alloa area as well as online appointments.

Training, qualifications & experience

I hold a Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Groupwork, which is COSCA-validated and credit-rated by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) at SCQF Level 11.

I also hold the COSCA Counselling Skills Certificate and have completed Naloxone Training for Trainers. I am a Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP) and work in accordance with the BACP Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions.

My professional background includes working within addiction and recovery services, supporting people affected by substance use, behaviour change and the emotional and practical challenges that can accompany addiction and recovery. This experience has given me a particular understanding of triggers, coping strategies, relapse prevention and the process of making and maintaining positive changes.

My CBT training enables me to work with a range of difficulties, which can include anxiety, stress, depression and low mood, OCD, panic, phobias, social anxiety, low self-esteem, trauma-related difficulties and PTSD, anger and emotional regulation, overthinking, addiction, relapse prevention and behaviour change.

Alongside individual CBT, I am trained in CBT group work, so I can use CBT approaches in both individual and group settings.

My approach is evidence-based, collaborative and practical. I continue to develop my knowledge through ongoing professional development and reflective practice, while working within the boundaries of my training, experience and professional competence.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

Finding the right therapist matters, and I understand that making initial contact can feel uncomfortable. You are welcome to get in touch before arranging an appointment if you have questions or would like to find out whether the support I offer is suitable for you.

I work with young adults aged 16 and over and welcome self-referrals and appropriate professional referrals.

At the beginning of therapy, we will spend time understanding what has brought you to CBT, how your current difficulties are affecting your life and what you would like to achieve. From there, we can agree on a way of working together that is focused on your individual needs and goals.

You don't need to arrive knowing exactly what is wrong or what you want to work on. Sometimes identifying and making sense of what is happening is an important part of the therapeutic process.

Appointments are available face-to-face in the Alloa area and online, depending on your circumstances and preference.

CBT may not always be the most appropriate form of support for every situation. If, after speaking with you, I believe another service or type of support would better meet your needs, I will discuss this openly with you.

Sunny Souls Therapy is a private therapy service and does not provide emergency or crisis intervention, detoxification or prescribing services.
