About me

I understand how overwhelming life can feel, whether you are struggling with the past, anxiety about the future, or simply trying to get through each day. You may be facing a major life event or a more general sense of unease, exhaustion, or low self-esteem. Perhaps you're dealing with anxiety, trauma, work-related stress, or difficulties within relationships or family life; change is possible, and you don't have to do it alone.

Bringing 20 Years of Compassionate Nursing into Counselling:

Before becoming a counsellor, I spent 20 years working as a nurse in the NHS, specialising in cancer care, hospice work, and accident and emergency. These roles brought me into contact with people at some of the most vulnerable and emotionally raw moments of their lives, dealing with grief, trauma, uncertainty, and loss.

This experience has profoundly shaped my approach as a therapist. It taught me how to sit with pain without trying to fix it, how to hold space for deep emotional distress, and how powerful it is to feel truly seen and heard. I bring this presence into the therapy room, offering a space that is calm, warm, and non-judgemental.

Whether you’re facing anxiety, grief, low self-esteem, life changes, or something less easy to name, I’m here to support you in making sense of your experience and finding your own way forward.

Who I work with:

Clients often come to me for support with issues such as anxiety, panic attacks, depression, relationship difficulties, low self-esteem, fear of failure, stress, emotional or sexual abuse, past trauma, and exhaustion. Sometimes these concerns are part of more complex or long-standing patterns. At other times, clients simply feel stuck or lost, life isn't where they want it to be, and talking things through with a trained professional helps bring clarity and direction.

How I work:

Together, we will work at your pace to help you develop the tools and insight to move forward with greater confidence, clarity, and self-compassion. You as a whole person, not a list of symptoms - and at the heart of our work. I will be alongside you every step of the way.

My approach is integrative, which means I draw on different therapeutic techniques to tailor our work to your individual needs. I offer a balance of compassion and gentle challenge, supporting you to explore what’s holding you back and empowering you to make meaningful, lasting changes.

In a safe, supportive, and non-judgemental space, we can explore your thoughts and feelings together, whatever you're facing, you won’t be facing it alone. My counselling style is warm and friendly. I will gently challenge you when appropriate and regularly check in to ensure our work together is helpful and meaningful.

At the heart of my practice are empathy, respect, and compassion. I aim to support you in finding your own answers, focusing on your lived experience so you can face life’s challenges with greater confidence and move toward your potential.

As a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), I adhere to a professional ethical framework. I also engage in regular supervision and ongoing professional development to ensure the quality and integrity of my work.

Information on Sessions:

I offer a free initial telephone consultation to give you the opportunity to learn more about how I work and to share what’s bringing you to counselling. I’ll explain my approach and what therapy might look like for you. This is also a chance for us both to see whether we feel like a good fit before committing to further sessions. There’s no obligation to continue, but if we decide to move forward, we can schedule your first session, and I’ll send over a working agreement.

Your First Session:

In our first full session, I’ll explain more about how the therapy process works. We’ll talk about what’s brought you to counselling so I can gain a fuller understanding of your needs and how best to support you. The session will move at your pace and comfort level, with the aim of creating a safe, collaborative space where you feel heard, supported, and empowered to move forward.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

The most common reasons people consult me are: Anxiety, Panic Attacks, Depression, Relationship Issues, low Self-esteem, Exhaustion, Stress, Emotional and Sexual abuse, Trauma past and present, Loss, and feelings of unhappiness.

However, often people have more complex problems in which aspects of the issues listed may be a feature. Sometimes people just feel stuck, that their life is not where they want it to be, and talking through things in a focussed way with a trained professional can help get clarity on what needs to change.
