About me

If you are struggling with stress, anxiety, panic or low self-esteem then I can help you. Working together, we can explore your difficulties and develop strategies to help you cope with them. This brings benefit and hope, not just for now, but for the future too.

Counselling is all about you but you need to take the first step. I think it can be much easier to make initial contact with someone when you know something about them, so… here's a bit about me!

I am a born and bred Geordie, though having been brought up in Gosforth, many people deny my accent! My absolute favourite colour is blue.  I am a member of The Cloud Appreciation Society.  I have enjoyed a number of hobbies ranging from kickboxing, to patchwork quilting, to playing guitar and brass (not that I am much good!).

Before training as a counsellor, I worked as a dentist. I realised that what I really loved doing was working alongside patients who struggled with low self-esteem, mental health problems and phobias.  I re-trained, initially at Newcastle University where I gained my psychology qualifications before going on to qualify as a counsellor at Sunderland University.  I love working with clients.  Someone once asked me if I ever got bored and the honest answer is that I don’t! I love my work and why would I feel bored when everyone I meet is different?

You are reading this for a reason. Maybe you are wondering whether Newcastle Counselling is for you? It may be or it may not! Clients that I have worked most successfully with using counselling and/or EFT are those suffering from, stress, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, abuse, understanding who they are and why they do the things or react the way they do, bullying, bereavement or depression.

The best way to find out whether Newcastle Counselling is for you is to call me for a free initial chat. This will give us a chance to discuss what is going on for you and whether it might be beneficial for us to meet in person. I look forward to speaking to you.

Member organisations

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.

Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.

All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

Key details

Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.
