About me

Hi there.

I warmly invite you to feel welcome to have a little read of my profile. While you do I invite you to simply notice what you feel. Trust your instinct. So much of what works for us in therapy rests on the relationship we create with our counsellor.

I am a very experienced therapist and that experience has afforded me the ability to work in a way that feels very authentic, relaxed and friendly. Counselling can be an incredible, life enhancing experience but let’s not pretend it isn’t also a daunting one. I hope that my way of being, and of working makes it much less so for you.

My counselling practice is called Where Wild Flowers Grow. Wildflowers capture so much of what I would like to offer you. I love that wildflowers grow on lonely, untended and inhospitable land. I love their tenacity that even after they have been trampled on, they bravely grow and flourish. That ability to persevere, to adapt and bloom and grow, untamed, epitomises all that I know each of us to be capable of. My job is to help you to believe it of yourself. You belong amongst the wildflowers.

I meet with clients in a lovely calm and comfortable space in the charmingly picturesque town of Strathaven.

If you’d like to ask any questions or have a chat about how we might work together please feel free to give me a call.

I offer an initial 15 minute free space for conversation, by phone or in person, that I hope will allow you to get a sense of whether or not I am the counsellor that you need to be alongside you at this time.

Training, qualifications & experience

With over 14 years working as a qualified person centred counsellor, I have been privileged to gain a wealth of experience in many different areas.

Over the years I think I can humbly say that there isn’t much I haven’t had the opportunity to work with.

I have spent most of my career working in the NHS and the fields of addiction, trauma and education.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
