About me

Taking the decision to try counselling is a courageous step. Well done for even arriving here.

How can I help you?

We all experience challenges in life, times where things don't seem to be working out the way we want or need them to. Whether you are struggling with anxiety and/or depression, stress or family issues, bereavement and loss, low self-esteem or self-confidence, burnout, caring responsibilities, or simply a feeling that life could be better, counselling can help you get fresh perspective. I provide a warm, welcoming, and safe environment where we can explore these challenges together and work out a way of moving forward.

I am a friendly and approachable counsellor and build genuine connection with my clients, it is from this secure base that healing can begin to take place. I am a registered and accredited counsellor with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I have been in Private Practice since 2019 and I worked for a national cancer charity at a large NHS hospital for 6 years. I have worked with people from all walks of life, from 18 to 80+.

Each therapeutic relationship is unique and I integrate different skills and theories to tailor the sessions to suit the individual I am working with. The two main theories I use are person-centred which is providing a compassionate and empathetic relationship and psychodynamic which looks at how the past can inform any current difficulties in order to find a better way of going forward. As a qualified mindfulness teacher, I can also offer clients mindfulness ideas and practices to help them take better care of themselves.

First step:

You can contact me by email, text or telephone. If I am not able to answer the phone please leave a message and I'll return your call as soon as I can. I offer a free 20 minute initial phone call at a mutually convenient time so we can begin to get a feel for each other. During this phone call it can be useful if you can share a brief outline of what has led you to seek counselling at this time. You can also ask any questions you may have. If it feels like we might be a good match then we would also try to set up an initial assessment session during this call. There is absolutely no obligation at this point, finding the right person for you is essential. I know you will feel nervous and will do my best to make it easy for you to talk to me.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have been in private practice since 2019 and I worked as a counsellor for a national cancer charity in an NHS hospital setting for 6 years. I worked with a highly diverse client group experiencing a wide range of difficulties which included patients and family members. In my hospital role I offered mindfulness workshops for patients and staff. I am a qualified mindfulness teacher and this training adds to what I can offer my clients. I am also a qualified teacher.

I undertake regular CPD to enhance my practice and meet professional requirements.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
