About me

About counselling:

We all experience challenges in life, times where things don't seem to be working out the way we want them to. Whether you're struggling with bereavement and loss, anxiety, depression, burnout, caring responsibilities, or simply a feeling that life could be better, counselling can help you get fresh perspective. I provide a warm, welcoming and safe environment where we can explore these challenges together.

Each therapeutic relationship is unique and I integrate different skills and theories to tailor the sessions to suit the individual I am working with. The two main theories I use are person-centred and psychodynamic counselling and I also use mindfulness ideas and practices to help clients find ways to support themselves. I have worked with people from all walks of life, from 18 to 80+.

Why choose me:

I am a friendly and approachable counsellor and pride myself on building genuine connection with my clients, it is from this secure base that healing takes place. I was inspired to become a counsellor after going through difficult times and experiencing the positive changes counselling helped me make in my own life. Counselling helped me develop new ways of dealing with my challenges and empowered me to take much better care of myself going forward. Now, I regard it as a real honour and a privilege to walk alongside clients as they go through tough times and to help them work on finding themselves again.

I am a registered and accredited counsellor with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).

First step:

You can contact me by email, text or telephone. If I am not able to answer the phone please leave a message and I'll return your call as soon as I can. I offer a free 20 minute initial phone call at a mutually convenient time so we can begin to get a feel for each other. During this phone call it can be useful if you can share a brief outline of what has led you to seek counselling at this time. You can also ask any questions you may have. If it feels like we might be a good match then we would also try to set up an initial assessment session during this call. There is absolutely no obligation at this point, finding the right person for you is essential.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have been in private practice since 2019 and I have worked as a counsellor for a national cancer charity in an NHS hospital setting. I worked with a highly diverse client group experiencing a wide range of difficulties which included patients and family members. In my hospital role I offered mindfulness workshops for patients and staff. I am a qualified mindfulness teacher and this training adds to what I can offer my clients. I am also a qualified teacher and teach wellbeing and mindfulness in a local primary school.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
