About me

What I offer

I work with individual clients and couples to explore whatever difficulties you are experiencing. It is important that you feel comfortable with a therapist and it can take sometime to find the right person for you. I offer an intial free 20 minute consultation which can be either in person, video or an audio call. I will say if I feel unable to offer the help that is needed and may suggest other avenues of support or other therapists that may be more appropriate/suitable for your needs. If I feel I am able to help you, and you wish to arrange a further appointment, I suggest two sessions in which we can have in-depth and structured conversations about your problems and your hopes and expectations for therapy. In these intial sessions you will get a sense of my approach and if this works for you and for me to see if my skills are sufficient to help you.

How I work

In our initial sessions I will ask you some questions about your experiences and relationships so I can thoroughly understand your presenting problems and your needs so we can work safely together. If we agree further session these will be shaped by your needs at that time. I see my role is to help you through this process of exploring your problems or difficulties without judgement or telling you what to do.  I will work in collaboration with you on the specific goals that are important to you.

My aim is to provide a safe space for you to explore your personal difficulties and find a way through these for yourself. During our time together we will review progress towards an ending based on an agreed number of sessions or, if the therapy is open ended, periodical reviews of progress will be part of the process.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

UKCP
UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP)

The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.

As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.

UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
