About me

What I offer

It is very important that you feel comfortable with a particular therapist or counsellor. It takes time to build trust in a relationship but sometimes we sense a particular person is not right for us at the first meeting. Therefore, I offer an intial free 20 minute consultation which can be either a video or an audio call. I will say if I feel unable to offer the help that is needed and may suggest other avenues of support or other therapists that may be more appropriate/suitable for your needs. If I feel I am able to help you, and you wish to arrange a further appointment, we can meet for a more in-depth and structured conversation about your problems and your hopes and expectations for therapy. In this intial session you will get a sense of my approach and if this works for you and if you feel I am the right person to help you. Talking therapies can help and are effective working at a distance, using online video or telephone sessions and/ or in person sessions. Whatever feels right and is most convenient for you.

How I work

Our initial session is quite structured structure and may take up to 90 minutes this is so I thoroughly understand your presenting problems and your needs so we can work safely together. If we agree further session these will be for 50 minutes and shaped by your needs at that time. If I think it will be of benefit to you, I may use creative methods, from time to time, as I have found these to be beneficial in the process of self-discovery. I usually suggest we see each other weekly and review after 6 sessions, this is so I can listen carefully to your story and understand your situation better. I see my role is to help you through this process of exploring your problems or difficulties without judgement or telling you what to do. If I think it would be helpful, I may provide information or offer suggestions. I will work in collaboration with you on the specific goals we discussed at the initial assessment.

My aim is to provide a safe space for you to explore your personal difficulties and find a way through these for yourself. During our time together we will review progress towards an ending based on an agreed number of sessions or, if the therapy is open ended, periodical reviews of progress will be part of the process.
