About me

Hi there!
I'm Leah, a BACP registered integrative counsellor and psychotherapist. I offer one-to-one therapy in a confidential space where we can work together to make sense of what's happening in your life.

To me, therapy is a collaboration between the therapist and the person accessing therapy. I believe that there is room for every element of experience in therapy, it’s not just about the difficult things that happen in life! I make space for the good, bad and everything in between.

How I work
I work integratively, which means I draw on different theories depending on what I feel would best help you. I am particularly influenced by person-centred and existential approaches, which in practice means I focus on building a strong, trusting therapeutic relationship with my clients and try to understand you and your experiences in the context of your life.

In sessions, I like to start by asking you to tell me a bit about your life. Getting to know you as a person helps us to explore what has brought you to therapy honestly and authentically. Then we look for threads together and decide what you would like to focus on in our sessions. I want you to have choice throughout our work together, including taking your time and deciding what feels comfortable to share.

Who I work with
I work with adults experiencing a wide range of difficulties, and you don't even need to know exactly what's wrong before coming to therapy. You might be struggling with anxiety, low mood, experiencing difficulties in your relationships, going through a period of change, or trying to make sense of something that has happened to you. Whatever brings you to therapy, I'm interested in understanding you as a whole person and exploring the experiences that may have shaped the way you see yourself, relate to others and cope with difficult situations.

Before becoming a counsellor, I spent most of my career working in the charity sector with children, young people and families who had experienced trauma. This experience has given me a strong understanding of how difficult experiences can affect people and the ways in which we adapt and cope. I particularly enjoy working with young adults as they navigate periods of change, uncertainty and transition, although I welcome adults of all ages and backgrounds.

If you think I could be the therapist for you, please get in touch! I'm always happy to answer any questions you might have before booking your first session.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
