About me

Hello there, my name is Laura. Sometimes we can’t see the wood for the trees, when this is the case we may need someone to talk to gain a new perspective. Here at Through the Woods Therapy, I offer a confidential, non judgemental and genuine service whilst you find your way through the difficult times you are experiencing.

I am a fully qualified integrative counsellor who provides a safe therapeutic space for reflection and self discovery and when you are ready I can offer solution focused techniques to move forward. As an integrative counsellor I believe each person has their own individual way of looking at things, I can offer counselling that suits these individual needs.

I am a trauma informed counsellor, who works with children and young people as well as adults. I can offer creative therapeutic methods should this interest you. I have many years of experience working with children and young people in different areas of my employment and I feel I can offer a young person a comfortable environment to feel relaxed enough to share their issues and problems whatever that may be.

Deciding to seek therapy can be difficult, but in doing so you have to take the first steps to help yourself and your mental health. I offer a free 15 minute telephone consultation to help you to make your choice.

Training, qualifications & experience

I spent 5 years studying counselling from level 2 to a Foundation degree in integrative counselling. This is an accredited qualification with the NCS. During this time I volunteered at Pips Charity where I befriended and offered counselling to young people and adults affected by suicide. I gained valuable experience here and saw clients through the most troubling of times. I have worked within schools in both primary and post-primary education over the years and in the last year, I invested in becoming a trauma informed counsellor for children and young people. Most recently I have completed a Lego therapy course, I can offer individual or small group session for children.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
