About me

You’ve probably already tried lots of things to get on top of your anxiety, but you are still feeling overwhelmed or struggling day to day.

Maybe you’ve read books, downloaded apps, tried breathing exercises, or even seen someone before. And yet you are still looking for something that really helps you feel calmer and more in control.

Please don’t see this as a failure. Anxiety is complicated and hard to untangle sometimes, it can be hard to untangle on your own. Often, no one has helped you truly understand what’s happening inside you, and without that understanding, it’s incredibly hard to make lasting change.

This is where I can help.

“I was sceptical about counselling at first as I’d had counselling before and felt it didn’t really meet my needs. However, Laura’s professional and personable approach has been wholly beneficial to me — I felt my concerns were important and were addressed at my own pace.” — past client
I’m Laura, a counsellor specialising in anxiety, based in Parkstone, Poole, Dorset, and online internationally.

Clients often tell me that working with me is the first time their anxiety has actually made sense,  why it started, why it keeps showing up, and what it’s trying to protect them from. This understanding really helps to start approaching anxiety differently to how you have before.

What it feels like to work with me
I don’t follow a script or a set programme. I work with you as an individual, at your own pace and how it feels comfortable for you.

My approach is warm, steady, and flexible. You can talk about anything here, the overthinking, the fear of coping, the physical symptoms, the things that keep you awake at night, the things you may never have been able to talk about before.

If you feel comfortable, safe, listened to and can be honest and truthful with yourself and with me, that really helps to build a place where we can together start to explore things.

Together, we gently explore what’s really going on beneath the anxiety. From there, we find what will actually help you feel more grounded and in control.

 That might include:

talking things through at your pace
practical tools for day‑to‑day moments
understanding your triggers and patterns
mindfulness and nervous‑system calming
learning how to respond differently to anxious thoughts

Most people find it’s a mix of all the above, shaped around what feels right for you.

Over time, clients tell me the overthinking reduces, the physical tension eases, and panic attacks (if they’re part of your experience) become less frequent and less frightening. But more than that, life starts to feel comfortable and more manageable.

I may be a good fit for you if:
You’ve tried other approaches and felt something was still missing
You want to understand your anxiety, not just manage it
You’re tired of coping strategies that don’t touch the real problem
You want a counsellor who is warm, steady, and genuinely alongside you

My role is to help you understand why anxiety feels so out of control, and to hopefully help you gently take back some control and live again.

''Before starting therapy, I was having daily panic attacks and would spiral over the smallest things, leaving me feeling exhausted and overwhelmed afterwards.
It was affecting my work, my relationships, and who I was as a person. I no longer recognised myself.
Working with Laura has genuinely changed the direction of my life, and I truly believe that is down to the work we did together.
While I’m still on my journey, I’ve learned to accept that this is part of who I am and to take things one step at a time.
I now have the tools and confidence to manage my anxiety in a way I never thought was possible.''  Past Client

Taking the first step
I know reaching out when you’ve already tried things that haven’t helped takes courage. So I keep the first step simple, calm, and pressure‑free.

We talk about what’s been happening for you, what you’re hoping for, and whether working together feels right. There’s no obligation beyond that.

“I started counselling with Laura after months of struggling with panic attacks. The techniques and strategies Laura uses, alongside her empathy and understanding, have made such a difference, several months later I can honestly say my life has totally changed for the better.” — past client

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
