About me
Hello, I'm Laura. I am a Certified Play Therapist (PTUK), a registered Occupational Therapist (HCPC), and a Parent-Child Attachment Play Practitioner. Throughout my career, I have specialised in supporting children, young people and families across community paediatrics services, a therapeutic trauma service, and currently within a children's mental health service and private practice.
I bring extensive experience and a genuine passion, for nurturing young people's emotional wellbeing and development. I have developed expertise in working with neurodivergent children and young people, as well as those experiencing anxiety, low mood, low self-esteem, bereavement and the impact of trauma.
My approach is client-centred, neuro-affirming and trauma-informed. I offer a therapeutic space that is warm, permissive and responsive, where children feel safe, understood and accepted. I believe when children are given time, attunement, and the right environment, they can explore and make sense of their inner worlds at their own pace.
Play Therapy provides children with developmentally appropriate ways to express themselves. Sessions may include creative activities such as drawing and painting, clay and sensory play, sand tray and miniatures, guided imagery and relaxation, storytelling, roleplay, puppetry, movement and music.
Children do not always have the words to describe their feelings or explain their behaviour. They may struggle to identify what feels difficult or overwhelming. Through play, they can communicate safely and symbolically. Play Therapy offers the time, expertise, and understanding needed to support children to process their experiences and express themselves.
I mostly work with children aged 4-14 years of age.
