About me

As a counselling psychotherapist I am committed to offering a confidential service which places you and your unique needs at the centre of my approach. I have a broad range of knowledge and experience having worked as a therapist in a variety of settings including specialist work with young adults, as well as working with adults & Couples in a broad spectrum of issues.

I am accredited and registered with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and will adhere to their ethical guidelines & framework for good practice.

Training

I completed my initial training at Queens University in Belfast in Person Centred counselling and psychotherapy.

Further training has involved working with post traumatic stress disorder, trauma and addictions, play therapy, adolescent counselling, anger management, relationship/couple counselling and working with eating disorders.

Counselling offers you an opportunity to talk freely about any issues you may be experiencing. You will be offered a confidential space to explore difficult emotions without judgment or advice.

As your counsellor I will facilitate your personal development and understanding of why you are feeling what you are feeling. Offering you support, while you adapt to life's changes.

Counselling Students for Personal Therapy or Supervision

I specialise in working with Adults and Couples in therapy. The aim of my approach is to support you to grow on a personal level while exploring and cultivating better coping strategies and developing positive choices, which can enhance your personal and mental well-beings well as your relationships with others.

What to expect

Our first meeting will be an introduction and assessment on why you have decided to come to counselling. It will be approximately an hour long and will allow you to decide if I am the right counsellor for your needs. It is important that the relationship between you and your counsellor is the 'right fit', creating trust in a relaxed, confidential, private and non-threatening environment. Weekly hour long sessions will be offered at a mutually convenient time to best suit your lifestyle.

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
