About me
Hi, I'm Lainy and firstly a warm welcome and good luck on your quest to find the right person.
I work Monday to Friday between 9am and 8pm - across two venues, one in Leicester City Centre (near St Martins Square) and one in South Wigston.
I believe that you are the expert of your story and that you have many strengths that will assist you in overcoming things that challenge you. It takes courage to seek out a more fulfilling and happier life and to take the first steps towards a change. I am here to support and empower you in that journey.
My intention is always to facilitate the appropriate level of healing, learning, empowerment and joy. I have helped hundreds of clients overcome stress, anxiety, depression, trauma and abuse. Swapping emotional pain for healthy self-esteem, empowerment and emotional resilience. I am currently working 121 face to face (office, on a walk, home visit) and remotely, via Zoom or telephone. I also offer award winning workshops called Medicine for Your Soul and mindfulness workshops. These teach you how to swap negative thinking for positive thinking and teach you how to deal with tough emotions like anxiety. The groups are fun and informal and work well if you would like to share your healing journey with others rather than be alone.
For both groups, there is a Whats App group so your learning is embedded with regular top up resources.
To find out more about the workshops go to www.lighter-minds.com.
Practice description
Talking to a counselor can create a huge sense of relief, you can let of steam and say how you really feel without worrying about confidentiality, judgement or repercussions. You can unravel your thoughts and feelings and look at them with calmer, wiser eyes so solutions previously hidden appear. You can learn new skills that allows you to swap negative thinking habits for positive ones. You can find out how to prevent going into "dark places" or when you do go into them how to get out quicker.
"We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used to create them." Albert Einstein
I believe that counselling is never "one size fits all". Therefore I use an integrative approach which is adaptable and flexible making sure your needs are what shapes your journey.
Personal empowerment often involves changing your thinking about yourself and the world around you. I believe that if you can change your thinking you can change your life.
I facilitate and enhance personal growth and insight with the ultimate goal of empowering you to change and move forward in life. I also aim to enable you to maintain what you have learnt in therapy, I will help you to develop new skills and strategies so you have the tools to cope when new problems arise, so you have more control of your life.
I will go at your pace and can offer you a wealth of extra resources. For example, I can send you YouTube links of your new skills /TED talks or articles about the scientific evidence for the tools you will be learning. I can also recommend relevant books or Apps depending on what suits you best. If you're not interested in any background information then that's fine too. You pick and choose how deep you want to delve.
The right help can bring your life back into balance and help you be properly mindful of your well-being.
My first session
In our first session, I will be learning about what you want from your healing journey. We will explore your background and presenting issues so that I can gain an idea of the best approach and tailor therapy to your needs. I will find out your preferences concerning the types of emotional tools you would prefer to use e.g. scientific, spiritual or combination.
We will discuss confidentiality and your expectations of counselling and talk about specific goals that you may like to focus on and what your priorities are.
I am a qualified mindfulness coach too so if it is appropriate we will can adventure into that realm of healing too.
I offer concessions for unemployed or retired people, if you feel you apply please contact me to find out more.
If you would like to find out more about me, and what I can do for you then please get in touch. I offer a free 15-minute initial consultation via video call, telephone or walk and talk.
During the consultation, you will have the opportunity to hear more about the way in which I work, ask any questions and get a feel of what working together would look like.

Training, qualifications & experience
I am the mental health spokesperson for BBC Radio Leicester and have been a registered member of the BACP since 2013. I have counselled and taught emotional resilience and mindfulness classes for the Leicestershire County Council, Relate and Leicester City Council to name a few.
I have dedicated the last two decades to researching and teaching emotional resilience. In this time I have developed a tried and tested powerful Emotional First Aid Kit.
In 2015 I wrote a children's book called 'Emotional Poo Don't Let it Stick to You'. For almost a year I dragged around my 'eatapoopasaurus' 6 foot inflatable dinosaur that the children could feed their emotional poo to.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
