About me

I am a fully qualified, experienced counsellor and psychotherapist working with couples and individuals of all sexualities, who are looking for a confidential, non-judgemental space in which to to explore relationship concerns. I am a registered and accredited member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP (Accred)) and hold an MA (distinction) from Tavistock Relationships, a long-standing, world-renowned institution specialising in relationship therapy. I continue to see clients there alongside my private practice.

Relationships can be hard. We can find ourselves stuck in unhelpful patterns; life can throw us real challenges; different life stages bring up issues; and maintaining a long relationship takes work. Some of the issues I work with include:

  • repetitive arguments
  • festering resentments
  • communication problems
  • trust issues
  • redundancy
  • bereavement
  • betrayal
  • infidelity
  • retirement
  • fertility issues
  • starting a family
  • parenting
  • adult children leaving home
  • getting older
  • low sexual desire
  • boredom
  • repeating partner choice
  • difficulties sustaining relationships
  • divorce & separation

I am a psychodynamic psychotherapist. Psychodynamic psychotherapy rests on the understanding that early experiences affect thoughts, ideas and patterns that we carry with us through life. Sometimes these can become problematic. Understanding where they come from can be incredibly freeing.

Thinking psychodynamically, I look at the whole person - your history, your current circumstances, your beliefs, hopes, ideas - because all aspects of your story are important. With couples, we explore these aspects both individually and from a relationship standpoint, with a view to fostering greater mutual understanding and a more solid base for the future.

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Additional information

I offer an initial consultation of 50 minutes during which we speak about your situation, in order to see if I would be the right person to help you. Talking about feelings and worries can feel difficult so it is important that you find someone you feel comfortable with.

Following the initial consultation, if the decision is to proceed with regular therapy, we will agree a mutually convenient time for weekly sessions. These last for 50 minutes and are conducted over Zoom.

My fees reflect my specialist training in relationship psychotherapy, as well as my experience. Consultations and regular sessions are charged at the same rate. Fees range between £85 and £120 per session. The fee will be agreed during the consultation.

If you would like more information, or to book a consultation, please telephone or email me, or contact me via my website www.laetitiaclapton.com.
