About me

Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes. - Carl Jung.

Sometimes life can seem so overwhelming that we do not know how to cope or where to turn. We can become angry and take our frustrations out on everyone around us. Or we can become depressed and withdrawn, making us feel isolated and lonely. Loss and grief can feel very frightening, impacting negatively on our relationships with others. In such cases, it can be difficult to confide in family or friends, for fear of burdening or offending them.

Seeking out a counsellor can feel very daunting. I am an experienced BPC registered counsellor and psychotherapist, and over the years I have gained valuable experience in working with a range of different issues. I offer a safe, confidential space to explore what is troubling you, in your own time and at your own pace.  In this way of working, we look at what is troubling you now, while exploring events in the past that may impact on how you live in the present, the relationship you have with yourself and others. Many people find this approach very helpful, leading to new insights and increased self-awareness.

Couples therapy can be a powerful way for two people to explore, enrich and heal their relationship. As in individual therapy, we look at the issues that are troubling the relationship here and now, while exploring events in the couple's past, both their individual backgrounds as well as going back to the beginnings of the relationship. Couples therapy is, therefore, a powerful journey of self- discovery for the individual as well as the couple.

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BPC
British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC)

The British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC) is a professional association, representing the profession of psychoanalytic psychotherapy.

The organisation is itself made up of fourteen member organisations and BPC accredits the trainings of its member organisations. An individual who qualifies from one of these trainings is then eligible for entry into the BPC's register.

BPC registrants are governed by a code of ethics, a policy of continuing professional development, a statement on confidentiality and a complaints procedure. The BPC is a Member Society of the European Federation for Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy in the Public Sector (EFPP). Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Further information

I offer an initial assessment where we can explore what is troubling you in the strictest confidence and find out whether counselling is for you. Please give me a ring or send me an email to arrange an initial phone call. If I am unable to answer the phone immediately, do leave a message and I will get back to you as soon as possible. Your message will remain confidential.

Subsequent appointments are based on 50-minute sessions at the same time each week. Sessions can be open–ended or short term (typically 10-12 sessions initially).

I can also point you in the direction of other colleagues and agencies if it would be helpful.
