MBACP, MSc Psychotherapeutic Counselling, Enhanced DBS

About me

I believe in a holistic approach to wellbeing that honours all aspects of our being. Being human can be messy and painful, it can feel like our past experiences, trauma or repeating relationship patterns are holding us back, preventing us connecting more fully with others or showing up in the world in the way we want.

You may have a specific issue you wish to bring, such as anxiety or low self-esteem, or just a general sense that something doesn't feel OK. Whatever it is for you, I work creatively and collaboratively, offering a space where you can feel safe and accepted and take things at your own pace. My aim is to support you in exploring what feels difficult, deepening self-awareness, and nurturing the possibility of greater connection and ease in your life.

I offer face-to-face psychotherapeutic counselling, using a relational, integrative approach that draws from a variety of theories including Humanistic, Psychodynamic, and Attachment-based approaches.

Training, qualifications & experience

  • MSc Psychotherapeutic Counselling - Staffordshire University
  • BA Applied Nursing (Learning Disabilities) and Generic Social Work - Sheffield Hallam University
  • BACP Registered Member
  • I hold a clear Enhanced DBS

I have worked therapeutically with a range of difficulties including anxiety, depression, stress, relationship issues, trauma, bereavement, challenges in self-expression, lack of confidence/low self-esteem and work-life imbalance. Prior to working as a psychotherapeutic counsellor I spent many years working within health and social care with older adults and those with learning and/or physical disabilities or complex needs, including as a staff nurse within a psychiatric setting supporting women with mental health difficulties and complex trauma. Now, alongside my therapeutic work, I support parent carers in a service that supports culturally diverse communities by helping to prevent social isolation and address inequalities.

I have also recently conducted research exploring childhood parental roles (when a child takes on responsibilities most suited to an adult, such as offering guidance or nurturance to a parent or having caring responsibilities) and their relationship to current self-care practices.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
