About me

I’m an experienced BACP Registered Counsellor and Psychotherapist, and I offer couples therapy with a particular focus on relationship difficulties, conflict and emotional disconnection. I work with couples who care about each other but have become stuck in patterns that leave them feeling unheard, misunderstood or increasingly distant.

I understand that couples can become caught in these patterns even when both partners genuinely want things to improve. One partner may reach out for connection while the other withdraws, or conversations may quickly become critical, defensive or shut down. Over time, the cycle itself can become the problem, leaving both partners feeling frustrated and alone.

My role is to help couples slow this cycle down and understand what is happening between them. Rather than focusing on who is right or wrong, I help couples recognise the pattern they have become caught in and explore what may be happening underneath the conflict or distance.

I use Imago Relationship Therapy, a structured, relationship-focused approach that helps couples develop a deeper understanding of each other’s experiences. A central part of Imago is the Imago Dialogue, which provides a framework for slowing conversations down so that each partner has an opportunity to speak, listen and be understood.

The aim is not to decide who is right or make you agree with each other. Instead, I help couples develop greater curiosity about each other’s experience and move away from blame and defensiveness towards empathy, understanding and connection.

My approach is warm, calm and non-judgemental, while also being structured and purposeful. Couples do not need to arrive knowing exactly what is wrong or how to fix their relationship. We can start with where you are now and work together to understand what is getting in the way of the relationship you would like to have.

Many couples come to therapy wondering whether things can really change, or whether they have left it too late. You don’t need to have the answers before you come. Sometimes the first step is simply having someone help you make sense of what is happening between you.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Further information

My practice hours are Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 8.00am to 6.00pm.

I offer relationship therapy face-to-face in Milngavie and online via Zoom. The practice is easily accessible by public transport, with on-street parking available nearby.

Couples sessions are typically 90 minutes and usually take place fortnightly.

I offer an initial 60-minute introductory session.  This gives both partners an opportunity to talk about what has brought you to therapy, ask questions and experience how I work. It also gives you the opportunity to consider whether working together feels like the right fit for your relationship. There is no obligation to continue afterwards.

If you would prefer to speak with me before arranging an introductory session, I also offer a free 15-minute telephone call. This is an opportunity to ask questions, briefly discuss what has brought you to therapy and find out more about how I work, with no obligation to book.
