About me

I'm a BACP-accredited psychotherapist working with adults online and in-person at Margaret House, Roundhay, Leeds LS8 1EP.

My particular areas of focus are anxiety, low self-esteem, and self-criticism, including how these affect the way people relate to others and to themselves. I also work with women who feel like they have lost themselves, including those going through the emotional and psychological changes of perimenopause and menopause.

Many of the people I work with are managing well on the outside, holding down jobs, caring for others, keeping things together. But underneath, they're anxious, hard on themselves, and often feel low, numb, or unable to enjoy things in the way they used to.

Therapy offers a space to understand what has shaped your experience and how you might respond to life differently. I don't offer a fixed programme, I rather work with you as an individual and adjust my approach depending on what you bring.

I am primarily a relational therapist, drawing on Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) and elements of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). I also offer EMDR, an evidence-based approach for processing distressing experiences.

I work with recognised health insurers, including AXA Health, Aviva, Vitality, and WPA.

If you're struggling with difficult feelings or feel unable to live your life the way you want to, get in touch to arrange an informal telephone conversation.

Training, qualifications & experience

I hold a postgraduate diploma in Counselling & Psychotherapy, and I'm an accredited member of the British Association of Counsellors & Psychotherapists (BACP), which means I have been formally recognised as meeting high standards of training, experience, ethical practice, and ongoing professional development.

In addition to my core training, I have completed further development in Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), and I draw on principles from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) in my work.

I am also trained in EMDR, an extensively researched, effective psychotherapy designed to help people heal from the emotional distress of traumatic memories. It is best known for treating PTSD, though it is also applied to anxiety, depression, phobias, and grief.

I am a member of a monthly CPD peer consultation group and engage in regular clinical supervision.

I am a recognised provider with Aviva, AXA Health, Vitality and WPA.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
