About me

*** If you have sent me an enquiry please check your spam folder for my response- for some reason my emails seem to end up there! ***

Hello and welcome! I am an Integrative Psychotherapist and Personal Trainer. I live in a small market town called Leek in Staffordshire. I have a natural passion for supporting people with their wellbeing and mental health and have done all of my adult life. I'm lucky in the fact that I've always known what I wanted to do. I have a huge love of dogs, I have a crazy English Bull Terrier called Gus. I love spending time walking, exploring the Peak District and the surrounding areas.

How do I offer therapy?

I currently run my private Psychotherapy practice 'Therapy with Katie'  offering face to face and online appointments. Face to face appointments are from the comfort of my lovely garden studio and online appointments are through zoom.

How can Therapy help?

As a Psychotherapist, I integrate three main approaches, Person-Centred, Psychodynamic and Cognitive Behavioural Theory. Therapy can be a powerful, transformative experience, through my knowledge and experience I will draw on the different approaches and tailor the therapy to each individual client. I empower my clients to work with their inner critic, connect to their younger, authentic self and provide a safe space to uncover and explore their deepest thoughts and feelings. My genuine, non-judgemental and warm nature ensures my clients feel comfortable, listened to and challenged.

I have specialist experience in Eating Disorders and body image, however, I work with a complete variety of areas and a range of clients, including children, young adults and adults. Additionally, I tailor and deliver workshops to groups of young people in education settings. I have 7 years of experience working with young people through a variety of therapeutic roles.

Client Testimonies:

"Katie came into my life at a very poignant part when I was at my lowest, fearing that things would never change and concerned about what that would mean for my future. After seeing other professionals previously for my mental health and eating disorder with no success I was really nervous to trust someone again, but after my first session with Katie I knew that she understood and would tailor my sessions to me rather than follow a set out plan and tick boxes as we went a long.

I started seeing Katie regularly in the beginning, she would engage in what felt like a general conversation and her use of questioning did not feel invasive. Every session was very natural and relaxing, although I knew Katie was getting the information she needed I never felt like I was pressured into divulging information or engaging in certain strategies.

As time moved on Katie was able to show me strategies and activities to help me understand myself and how to cope with the emotions I struggled to recognize which led to destructive behaviour. This was hard to begin with, but Katie reassured and encouraged me with those that worked best.

As time went on I grew more confident in myself and was able to reduce my contact time with Katie, but knew I could return if I needed to re-ground myself. I can't thank Katie enough for the time she took to work with me, keeping it at my pace and support the different issues in my life at that time. I owe her a lot!"

'I started therapy with Katie two and a half months ago. It has been the best thing I have ever done for myself. Before I started therapy with Katie I used to think why am I so organised in my professional life, yet some areas of my personal life feel disjointed. I thought that it’s just how life was and I didn’t have a say...my say didn’t matter.

Finding Katie has taught me how to listen to myself and my needs, instead of only caring how everyone else is doing.(Typical me)...I needed to explore deeper into my past and address some open wounds which I now know are a huge part of what makes me me. I wasn’t sure fully what made me me before but I’ve come to realise that I am Funny, extrovert, introvert, thoughtful, analytical, shy and sensitive. Instead of trying to hide some of these qualities and put on a very confident mask I have found who I am and embrace it knowing that the only person who really needs to accept me is me.

For anyone feeling overwhelmed or confused talking really helps and Katie was able to make me feel comfortable and understood from day one where I cried uncontrollably as I had held my feelings in for so long she told me to “let it out” something I had felt so ashamed to do before but something now I feel so proud to have done. My biggest fear used to be being misunderstood and now that voice in my head reassures me that I understand and it’s okay. Thankyou Katie you have helped me so much to heal. You truly are an inspiration and I will never be able to thank you enough.'

I came to Katie, feeling Quite sad and confused and to be honest I didn’t really know the answer to WHY I was feeling this way. Before coming across Katie’s Page I had never even considered therapy, I thought this is who I am and it’s not going to change. How can someone via a zoom call possibly understand what I am going through, let alone fix it?

However, I bit the bullet and gave it a go; Nervous and sceptical I made the call not really knowing what to expect. I was greeted by a warm smiley Hello, and I have not regretted my decision to pick up the phone since. I was made to feel welcomed and was instantly offered a space to talk that I knew was safe. I called Katie because I was sad, but it turns out there is so much more to it than being down or sad or feeling a bit low.

Katie has spent the time getting to know me and listening to everything I have to say with no judgement at all. She asks questions which are so thought provoking, and really get you thinking and understanding more about your mind and why you’re feeling the way you feel. I have been guided and given tools in order to manage my day to day struggles and cope with the problems in which I face. Katie has taken the time to understand me, to view it from my perspective & to really understand what I’m feeling but most importantly why I’m feeling this way.

I started out in therapy, knowing very little about myself, I didn’t even know my favourite Colour. Months later, I am a much stronger minded woman than I was back in June. I am now on the right path to being happy and getting to know ME!

Katie has helped me get to where I am today and I am eternally grateful. I have been given tools and exercises, motivation and an ear to listen, a safe space to talk and a shoulder to cry on. Through all the good days and the bad, you have supported me, never once letting me down. I couldn’t recommend a better therapist than Katie, she truly is a credit to her profession.

Thank you Katie.'

P.S My favourite colour is Yellow.'

Member organisations

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
