Member organisations

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Testimonials:
"Over the past 4 months my sessions with Katie were invaluable, the support she offered helped to improve some of my conditions and the quality of my life. She is a good listener and very apt at understanding your needs. It was nice to have worked with someone who shows up in a way that makes you feel safe and heard. I also found that even though we are from different backgrounds she was still able to extend cultural sensitivity due to her level of awareness. So overall my experience was exceptional!"
"As a newcomer to therapy, I was initially nervous of what to expect, but Katie knew exactly how to put me at ease and guide me through the process. She always knew how to lead the conversation and ask appropriate questions. I wanted to use the sessions as a form of self reflection and Katie was excellent at giving me food for thought, as well as ideas for putting things into practice in a way that never felt like homework. She’s calm, kind, validating and I’ve found my sessions with her invaluable. Thank you Katie!"
"Katie was so attentive and listened so well and helped to realise the way I feel is totally justified, something that had been plaguing me for years as I tried to make myself feel like I fitted in. I was able to come away from the sessions really positive and with a completely different outlook than the one I had previously"
"I initially saw Katie for help with my mental health issues and general wellbeing. At the beginning of our sessions there was a development in my personal life that made things very difficult and stressful for me. Katie supported me effectively through this time over the phone during the pandemic. It was a tough time for me, and Katie helped me manage better day to day, and was an invaluable resource for my mental health."
"It was surprising how quickly we were able to unpick how I had been feeling; I have come to understand myself better than I ever have as a result of our conversations. I now feel empowered to continue with my life on my own and tackle my issues in a much more healthy way."
"I joked that counselling was the best thing I'd ever spent money on but I genuinely believe it. The experience has had a huge impact on me as a person, on my thinking, and I really can't express adequately how beneficial I feel this experience was."
