About me

Hi, I'm Katie and thanks for visiting my page.

Let's face it, life can (and often does) get messy, and it can be filled with a whole mix of challenges, issues and complications. It may be that you have reached a moment in time when that one 'thing' or mix of 'things' has started to get in the way and you feel something needs to change, but you are unsure of where to begin or who to turn to. I hope to be the hand that helps guide you through the messy parts you may be facing in life, empowering you to move closer towards building a stronger sense of self-worth, emotional resilience and self-belief.

The counselling process can involve an exploration of some of the below areas:

  • Challenging your inner critic and negative self-talk
  • Developing new and healthy habits, behaviours and mindsets
  • Developing a sense of personal autonomy and agency
  • Deepening your understanding of how you relate to others
  • Exploring unconscious processes
  • Exploring unhelpful patterns or thought processes that keep you feeling stuck or prevent you from moving forward
  • Gaining more clarity, resilience, self-esteem and self-confidence
  • Identifying your coping and defence mechanisms
  • Overcoming deep rooted beliefs of yourself and others
  • Re-connecting with your authentic self
  • Encouraging self-care and prioritising your own needs and wants

I embrace the view that you are the expert in your own life, and believe providing a space free from judgment or expectation will overtime increase your capacity for personal growth, healing and change.

I will sit side by side with you in a safe and caring space helping you to discover your own answers and clarity from within; reconnecting to your inner and outer world in a way that feels more fulfilling and meaningful to you.

Whilst offering you kindness and compassion, I will work with you to form a trusting and balanced therapeutic relationship, with the intention of you feeling heard, valued and entirely accepted for who you are.

How I Work

I am a fully qualified and insured therapeutic counsellor and psychotherapist focusing my work in the person-centred approach.

I offer both short and long term counselling, checking in with regular reviews to reflect upon progress and development. The pace, depth and length of therapy is always centred on your individual needs, as I do not believe in a 'one-size-fits-all' approach to therapy.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Further information

My work history involves having varied roles working within the beauty industry for 6 years and in the health and social care sector for 5 and half years. Having worked in health and social care for several years, I have cared for people of all ages and backgrounds both within the home and hospital environment. I have gained a good understanding around the connection between physical and mental health and well-being, and have supported individuals, both emotionally and physically, during very challenging times in their lives, including palliative care.

I have witnessed how impactful being a full or part time carer can be on a person’s mental health and wellbeing and recognise the complicated feelings involved when caring for a loved one.
