About me

Hi, I’m Kathryn. I offer face-to-face counselling for adults in Ipswich, Newmarket, and online.

Right now, you might be feeling anxious, low in confidence, overwhelmed, or as though life is asking more of you than you have to give. Perhaps something just doesn’t feel quite right. Or maybe you just want to understand yourself better.

I offer a calm, thoughtful space where you can feel heard and understood. In the early stages, I focus on getting to know you and being a steady, supportive presence.

As trust builds, I may gently reflect patterns or ways of being that I notice, giving you the chance to see yourself with fresh eyes. Sometimes that means gentle challenge, but always with care. Therapy can be hard work at times, but there can also be moments of lightness and even laughter along the way.

Over time, people often find that things begin to feel a little lighter. Situations that once felt overwhelming can become more manageable, and reactions that once felt immediate or intense can soften. Many come to understand themselves better and begin to relate to themselves with more kindness and less criticism.

Training, qualifications & experience

Qualifications:

Dip. Couns, MBACP

I am a qualified therapist, holding a CPCAB Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling, and I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), working in line with their ethical framework.

My approach is informed by person-centred and psychodynamic ideas, which means I focus on building a supportive relationship while also helping you understand patterns in how you think, feel and relate to others.

PhD in Psychology

Alongside my therapy work, I have a background in psychology, including a PhD where I explored behaviours that can support wellbeing. This shapes how I think about people and the importance of understanding each person’s experience in their own context.

Experience

I have experience working with adults across a range of issues, including anxiety, low mood, relationship difficulties, feeling stuck or overwhelmed, life transitions, and challenges around identity, self-worth, or direction.

Continued Professional Development

I regularly undertake additional training to continue developing my work and what I can offer to clients.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
