About me

About me

I have recently returned to Hampshire where I grew up after working in Northern Ireland.  I began my career as a university lecturer in psychology and social sciences, working for Middlesex University, Goldsmiths College and the Open University.  Alongside this, I trained and then worked as a counsellor with Relate UK.  I went on to teach counselling at Queens University Belfast on their Masters Degree and then became Course Director for the Foundation Degree in counselling at the University of Ulster.  I wrote and delivered the level 5 Diploma in Relationship Counselling for Relate Northern Ireland which was accredited by CPCAB.  I am also a qualified counselling supervisor.

Counselling practice

I have more than twenty years’ experience as a counsellor, working with couples and individuals.  Relationships with family, friends and partners can be fundamental to our sense of identity and self worth and, if unfulfilling, can lead to depression, anxiety and feelings of low self-esteem.  We all experience times in our lives when live events and relationship issues can be difficult to manage.  Counselling can help us to get through these difficult times.  I offer a safe space where clients can make sense of their situation  and explore ways of making positive changes for the future.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have my own private practice but I also work as a trainer and teacher in counselling.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
