About me

My approach to counselling is non-judgemental and honest. I work in an integrative way which means I utilise different approaches and techniques in my work, and tailor it around each person individually.

I have a professional background working in addiction, mental health and sexual violence. I have worked with people through their recovery journey on a 1:1 basis and in groups, and have helped them to achieve not only recovery but increased self-worth and compassion, and helped them to build back other parts of their life in their own time. I currently work for a sexual violence charity and have a lot of experience working with people who have experienced trauma. I work in a sensitive and informed way through these, and offer a kind space where trust can be built, as everyone deserves a space where they feel safe and can be heard and believed.

In my work I focus on the therapeutic relationship that forms between us, therapy needs a strong foundation for it to be the most effective.
I value honesty and up front communication so please don’t be afraid to give feedback and let me know what it is you would like and benefit most from.
Although therapy often deals with serious topics, I don't think the space has to be serious all the time and I leave room for humour and whatever else may come up.

I currently have availability on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings, as well as Thursday and Friday afternoons.
I work in different locations in Brighton including Carlton Hill, Trafalgar street and Princes street, as well as Church road in Hove.
I also see people online.

If you are interested in working together please get in touch and we can arrange an initial 20 minute consultation to see if we would be a good fit.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a qualified integrative therapeutic counsellor registered with the BACP.

I have a professional background working in addiction, mental health and sexual violence.
Academically I hold a degree in Neuroscience and a masters in Psychology. From this I take an understanding of the brain and behaviour which I utilise in my work. This has been especially relevant in my work in addiction as there is such a strong neurological link to the formation and maintenance of addictive behaviours and patterns. Understanding what is going on in your brain during these processes can then help you to break out of these cycles and move forward.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
