About me
My name is Kat and I work at Blossom & Bloom Counselling, a counselling service for children and young people aged 5 to 25, promoting and supporting their emotional and mental health. I am a fully qualified counsellor, trained specifically to work with children and young people through a person-centred approach. This means that I am led by my client and their choices within the room and consider the relationship to be at the heart of the therapy process.
My mission is to provide a safe and supportive environment for children and young people to explore their feelings and emotions in a confidential and non-judgmental space. As a qualified children and young people's counsellor, I am committed to helping children and young people develop the skills they need to cope with life's challenges and build resilience. I believe that every child and young person deserves the opportunity to blossom and bloom into their full potential.
I believe that the counselling relationship is unique and special, based on trust, confidentiality, equality and safety. In a world where children and young people have little power, this relationship is especially important and creates a space where they can be in control, be themselves and be met with warmth and acceptance. This can help to enable them to express their feelings openly and honestly.
Whilst recognising that every person is individual and unique, I work with empathy and understanding and I strongly believe in the power that every young person has within themselves, to grow and make a difference in their own life.
My training means that I understand that your child or young person may not feel comfortable or able to verbally express their thoughts and feelings. As a result, I work creatively using a variety of resources so that children and young people can create or play out their feelings to help them gain an understanding of their inner world.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have completed a level 5 Diploma of Higher Education in Children and Young Person's counselling. I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy as well as a member of the Creative Counsellors organisation.
I have worked within a hospice setting for over 10 years in a variety of roles and this experience means I have worked predominantly with children and young people who are living with a diagnosis of illness themselves or within their family. I also specialise in bereavement and grief counselling for children and young people.
I have experience of also working within school settings and have worked predominantly with anxiety, bullying and identity.
My CPD means I am fully DBS checked and have level 3 certificates in Safeguarding both children and adults.
Through personal experience, I am passionate about the challenges that come with neurodiversity and have completed CPD courses around how best to support all clients regardless of needs or diagnosis.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Additional information
I offer a free 20 minute assessment. This can be on the phone or with parent and child/young person in my counselling room. This offers an opportunity for us to all meet together, see the space where therapy will take place and ensure that the child/young person feels comfortable before counselling sessions begin.
Following this, sessions cost £55 for 50 minutes.
