Many people experience difficult periods of intense stress or anxiety. Pressure from work can often be a part of this. For others, stress may have been part of life for a long time but become unmanageable following a major life event; the loss of someone close, a house move or change of job or relationship. Many people during these times experience feeling that they are unable to wind down or relax. Sleep often becomes a problem.
My clients are generally professionals in finance, legal, media and tech. I work with professionals at all levels of the business. Sometimes stress has become such an issue that people wonder if they need to step away from work for a time. I have lots of experience in supporting clients back to a space where they feel they could return to work and to return feeling confident and in control. Many clients initially call feeling unsure if psychology can help. The events in their life seem to be the cause of the issues. Without those things changing how can you possibly feel better? Through many years of experience I have been able to support clients though all of life’s many challenges. The events themselves may not change, but still at the end of therapy clients feel that they are back on top of things. Their enjoyment of life returns and every day stops feeling like a chore. Feelings of paralysis and exhaustion decrease. The things that used to disturb peace of mind may still do so - but often to a much lesser degree. People say they feel Teflon coated and have newfound resilience.
I am a British Psychological Society Chartered and HCPC registered Clinical Psychologist with over 15 years NHS experience. I now work solely in private practice. I hold a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology. In the NHS I treated a wide range of difficulties and supervise a small team of therapists. I am trained in using many different therapies for anxiety, depression, stress, panic, burnout, OCD, relationship difficulties and many other of life's problems. I like to work with Cognitive Behaviour Therapy as the core of sessions, but also draw from Schema Focused, Compassion Focused and Mindfulness Based therapies- making each intervention tailored to the particular concerns that clients bring.
Many people wonder when to seek help- as a useful rule of thumb 'It's only a problem when it's a problem for you'. If the issues are causing you difficulty in your work life or home life - it may be time to seek help. If you feel that you should be enjoying life - but are not - it may be a few sessions of therapy will be enough to get back on track.

Weekend appointments are often available so that you can fit therapy around your commitments. Skype or telephone consultations may also be possible if this is more convenient. I have regular clinics in Bromley, West Wickham and the City.
