About me

Welcome to my profile

I believe that having counselling is a sign of courage; you are deciding to face up to the challenges you are experiencing and looking for counselling can be the first step in a life changing process; deep and lasting change is possible for us all.

None of us goes through life without at times feeling unhappy, anxious or confused at some point; with almost 25 years experience as a counsellor, and as an accredited member of BACP, I have an extensive and varied experience to offer.

I hold an Masters Degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy and I work with a full commitment to The Ethical Standards of the BACP.

I will offer you a warm, safe and supportive relationship in which we can explore together the challenges you are experiencing = whatever they may be = so that you can begin to believe in yourself again and move forward. With increased awareness and resilience we can work through unresolved issues, changing habitual patterns and responses to begin to make the changes you want to make.

My approach is humanistic and integrative; working within a safe and trusting relationship I often draw on CBT to facilitate effective and swift change= CBT Is a well researched and evidence based approach shown to be effective with a wide range of issues including anxiety and depression. I also draw from Transactional Analysis, Mindfulness, and the Psychodynamic Model to work at a deeper level, enabling you to move forward with insight and understanding

.
I am also able to offer hypnotherapy to clients who are interested in working in this way; this, in conjunction with counselling, can be a highly effective tool to bring about quick and lasting change by helping to break the negative cycle of anxiety and depression. Hypnotherapy works with the unconscious mind and is safe, enjoyable and relaxing. If you’re interested in hypnotherapy please contact me

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
